Fulton County Students Plan Conference to Talk about Bullying, Teen Pregnancy, Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Other Concerns
Conference to focus on the theme, “Empowering Youth, You Do Matter!
The Fulton County Housing and Human Services Department Office of Children and Youth wants to empower young people to identify and implement strategies for reducing bullying, teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections in their schools and communities. Students are planning the conference with the assistance of the Office of Children and Youth and the South Fulton Human Services Coalition.
The mini-conference is free and will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 15, 2012, at the Hapeville Charter Career Academy at 6045 Buffington Road in Union City. Registration begins at 9 am with breakfast and lunch provided.
The mini-conference, which is being planned by youth, parents/caregivers and community organization leaders, addresses issues that influence relationships such as bullying, health and self- image. During the conference, youth will also learn how to develop their leadership skills, and advocacy while they also discuss the importance of civic involvement. Before the conference concludes, young people will prepare their own youth driven solutions to society’s challenges through the development of a report for presentation to Fulton County Commissioners and Georgia Legislators.

Youth Sessions
• Healthy Decisions - Health issues such as STDs, self-image, and other concerns.
• Understanding the Law and Bullying – Myths about the law and bullying
• Healthy Relationships – What healthy relationships look like
Parent/Caregiver Sessions
• Healthy Decisions - Health issues such as STDs, self-image and other concerns that impact young people
• Education – Advocacy for children’s education and how to get them through school successfully
• Higher Education – Preparing children for college
