Barack Obama Re-Elected President
President Obama defeated Republican Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential election, according to projections.

President Barack Obama and Vice-President Joe Biden were re-elected Tuesday night, defeating Republican challenger Mitt Romney and his vice-presidential running mate Rep. Paul Ryan, according to network projections.
NBC News called the presidential election for Obama around 11:15 EST. The president sent a message on Twitter at 10:14 saying simply, "This happened because of you. Thank you."
The Obama campaign won the most expensive presidential race ever, with both parties raising about $2.6 billion. The race was filled with negative campaigning on both sides, from President Obama attacking Romney’s business experience with Bain Capital to Romney lambasting Obama’s handling of the economy.
The race tightened during the final months of the campaign, with gaffes and surges from both candidates. After a weak performance after the Republican Convention, Romney surged following Obama’s listless performance after the first presidential debate. Nevertheless, the president cemented a lead in battleground states heading into Tuesday’s election.
Obama lost in Georgia. As of 11:30 p.m., he trailed Romney 54.14 percent to 44.70 percent, with 139 of 159 counties reporting.
Obama’s performance in Georgia wasn't surprising, considering that the Peach State has been seen as solidly Republican in recent years. Bill Clinton was the last Democrat who won Georgia in his bid for president.

You'll miss a lot of the meaning of the Bible by cherry-picking passages out of it to prove a point, especially a political one. That passage is directed at believers regarding their own behavior toward authority and a reference to God's sovereignty.
But make no mistake that this country is headed off a steep cliff and it probably wouldn't have mattered who won but four more years of Obama is an utter disaster.

I'm proud of Georgians standing up and choosing Romney but I don't understand America! Does the American voter honestly feel we are better off now than we were 4 years ago? Seriously? I simply don't understand, it's very depressing! Four more years and we will be doomed.

I'm better off. My retirement dropped 50% when W was in office. It's back to 100% of its pre-republican admin value under Obama. The Dow is at 13000+ and it was almost half that 4 years ago. We are all better off. It's not how I feel... It's what I have in my bank account. Unemployment is going down. The housing market is rebounding. My industry is booming with new work. I fail to see how I'm worse off... What examples do you have to prove your point.

@ Greg, no America doesn't but it also didn't think Romney was the right guy... Why replace mediocrity with mediocrity..
At the end of the day, this became about red and blue, not who is the best - we need real change, and unfortunately the Republican party was afraid of it and played it safe..
I firmly believe if Ron Paul was running against obama, he would have won -.

Hello,
I am better off than I was 4 yrs ago as well. Alot of people are better off, but Republicans want people to believe things are not getting better even though the numbers show otherwise.
This is the reason why you may feel so depressed. It hurts alot when people lie to you. When the deception is uncovered you feel so used, hurt and really abused.
I do not say this to dig needles, what I've said is a fact.
The polls have been telling everyone that Obama was going to win. Websites like Nate Silvers 538.com had the information there for months, but Republicans kept saying the polls were skewed, the dems are lying and so forth. In the end, the truth was what it was. I mean for god sakes the in the Republican Primaries all running against Romney told you he was a liar as well.
When people become so entrenched in onesided views, the reality can hit very hard when the truth comes to light.
Everyone who thought Romney had this in the bag should think really hard about a few things.
1. How is it that Republican Talk Radio, Fox News and Numerous Papers told you that Romeny was going to win by landslide.
2. Where did the talking heads get their info. (sounds like the made stuff up)
3. Why is it that there was so much racist undertone to so much of the Republican rhetoric?
Wake up. Stop listening to nonsense. Numbers don't lie. People Do......
Most Americans were to smart not to listen to garbage.

GregRodgers - What TalkRadio, newspapers and who on Fox News ever said this was going to be a landslide? I never heard that once. I listen to Boortz, Hannity, ocassionally Rush now that we're stuck with him in ATL, Herman Cain, Erick Erickson, etc...and not one of them ever said it wa sa landslide. In fact, they all said that it was going to be a very tough, very tight race.
Also never heard one racist undertone...except from the Dems.

Dick Morris on Fox on O'Reilly:
http://video.foxnews.com/v/1937585022001/dick-morris-romney-will-win-in-a-landsl ide/
Wrong and liars....Morris earlier said he knew this because of his internal polls. He goes on in the video by explaining that the polls are skewed and wrong such as 538.com per Dick Morris
They wrongly created false hope when legit websites like 538.Com had it right for months, but because Nate Silver is a Democrat. Nate was right Dick Morris dead wrong.

The DOW isnt a very good argument. Look at the history of the DOW and you'll see that it's been increasing for decades. Stimulus and QE have given people a false sense of economic growth.
I dont know if you've noticed but prices or going up and the cost of living is increasing. Gas is more expensive. Food packages are getting smaller, and raw materials or raising business expenses. It's a good thing we're such good friends with China or things would be much more expensive. The extra cash in you bank account doesn't mean much when it buys less.
Get ready for another housing bubble because we apparently didn't learn anything. Over and over we will hear about how the Hurricane is going to boost the economy and create jobs. Based on that logic, burning down houses would be the key to economic prosperity.
It is absolutely impossible for congress to balance the budget. It's just not going to happen. Even if they shutdown every department they still wouldn't be able to balance it. Mandatory spending like Social Security, Pensions, and Medicare cost way more than the government's intake. Raising taxes won't increase in government in take either. Clinton did it and the revenue didn't change. The loss in production causes the tax increase to balance out. AND yes Clinton balanced the budget but they took money right out of the social security saving account.
Greece is our future. Austerity measures will eventually have to kick in and the people will riot.

The only thing I can possibly add is that the statement 'America’s chickens have come home to roost' has been has been so grossly been miscredited to Wright & is out & out plagiarism of a statement made by Malcom X in the 60's regarding the JKF assassination, which the media of course never bothered to correct!
For those who don't know who Malcom X was or the strong influence he carried(s) in Chicago (and yes, Wright was a follower), here's a link to get you started.

Scotty Q-- your post is a mere microcosm of the problem we have with an electorate that does not understand the issues.
8% unemployment does NOT mean that 92% of us are employed. That is a LOL statement.
The labor participation rates are at 31 year lows. The unemployment rate ignores someone who stopped looking for work--he/she is unemployed, but they are not counted as unemployed.
The unemployment rate does not reflect someone who had a 40 hour a week job and now is working 28 hours a week and can not find a full time job. He/she is counted as employed. Would you feel employed if you income is down by 50% and you cannot find a full time job?

Republicans in office have been lying to Republican voters for a long time.
They have alot of explaining to do to their audience as folks wake up today asking how could this have happened when we have been led to believe Romney had this in the bag?
Just yesterday Rush said Romney would win in landslide with 340 electoral votes. This may have given people hope...but as you see...it is what it is...an out and out lie.

To Phil..
Sure we all know what 8% unemployment means. We also are smart enough to know that it took 8 yrs to kill this country and that it would not take 4yrs to fix it.
The problem with the electorate or people in general is that we live in a NOW society. If you cannot give me what I want NOW....I will just take my marbles somewhere else to play.
Obama won because the electorate is actually alot smarter now than it was 12 yrs ago. I really believe that this began to change after we found we were lied to about WMD's and then fact checkers got websites online.
People are just smarter nowadays than in the past.

Obviously Lee, you don't have any black friends. You just made that up. Blacks may be proud of Obama, but they certainly don't vote for "black only" candidates. If you don't believe me, how many blacks do you see voting for Allen West,Herman Cain. How many supported Condolezza Rice and Clarence Thomas? However, there is overwhelming black support for Colin Powell. See, that is just something Republicans tell themselves so that they don't have to face the fact that they only look out for the rich, powerful and business. And black people look out for their interests, as well. Tell me how many black people do you know on welfare? But I bet you've met a few at your job. Repubs don't even have respect for our elderly and veterans or he would've never picked Paul "voucher" Ryan for vice president.

Will be interesting to watch the stock market today to see what the business builders and job creators think.
For the Obama supporters, so when exactly do we now start addressing the national debt which is $15 TRILLION and climbing? Cradle to grave government dependency is not sustainable.

I am heavily invested in the stock market. I don't buy or sell my stocks based on the election. Do you think someone who is an industry leader really does that? We research into the individual investments we make and make decisions based on that.
Any market changes you see are the result of Joe The Plumber on E-Trade, not business builders and job creators.

The stock market will go up. Since 1900, the average monthly return on the stock market has been 0.73% under Democrat presidents, almost double the 0.38% under Republicans.
Me? I'm looking forward to Obama closing out his next 4 years with a 4-5% unemployment, the Dow hitting $17,000, my house worth more than I paid (finally broke even this year), and a surplus instead of a deficit.

Scotty I sure hope you are right, but the laws of math and economics will have to be changed for all that to happen. It's a pyramid scheme, you can't mandate health coverage rules, increase regulation, tax achievement, and grow the economy enough to pay for the huge increases in government handouts that have occurred over the last 4 years, heck over the last 30 years (yes some Republicans are guilty too)

I am disappointed in the comments here. Most are trash talking the opposition on character or saying they basically vote for their own pocketbooks. That's what's wrong with politics in this country. People don't understand or care about the issues. They care about outrage and their own money.
Both candidates were good men who would have served us well. They ran strong campaigns, but in the end, even though my guy won, it was not for the right reasons.

Back in the '80s Sting released a song called "Russians" in which he sang "Mr. Khrushchev said we will bury you...I don't subscribe to this point of view..." Well, Sting was wrong. I know, I know...big surprise.
"Of course we will not bury you with a shovel. Your own working class will bury you,"[5] a reference to the Marxist saying, "The proletariat is the undertaker of capitalism", based on the concluding statement in Chapter 1 of the Communist Manifesto: "What the bourgeoisie therefore produces, above all, are its own grave-diggers. Its fall and the victory of the proletariat are equally inevitable". Khrushchev repeated this Marxist thesis at a meeting with journalists in the U.S. in September 1959. However, many Americans interpreted the quote as a nuclear threat."

Ok - you have all gotten it out, now can we, people of America, come together and stop all this foolishness! You will have yet another opportunity to make a change in two years...but until then, it is really time to come together - work together - and stop making everything a color issue! I pray people cast their vote based on the issues at hand and not on the color of a person's skin! Because like it or not, for the next four years Barack H. Obama is the President of the United States of America...not the divided states of America...And the really sad thing is during the last two months I have seen so much hatred coming from both parties that is only being passed down to future generations...We have been so busy bashing both candidates until we have not really listened with our hearts! We can get so caught up in what others have to say that we don't study things for ourselves...People, the election is over - let's move on...do whatever you gone do, support the president or not, that's on you...respect the president or not, it's your decision...But it will not change the vote. And with the question that was posed, are you doing better now than four years ago...yes I am because I have not put my trust in man - BUT I trust God and take Him at His Word - He is my Provider and He supply all my need...not Carter, not Reagan, not Bush, not Clinton, not Bush, not Obama...BUT GOD!

A few interesting notes.
This vote was a vote by the plurality of the country. Americans have spoken, Only two presidents in the last 60 years have received 50% of the vote for two terms, Reagan and Obama.
Americans are saying it's time we work together to figure out this country's problems. Sure the debt can be cut, but it's not going to be purely on the backs of the middle class.
The republicans truly have a demographic issue at this point. The country is beoming more diverse, in 1988 Bush won 72% of the white vote, he got over 400 electoral votes, yesterday Romney also got 72% of the white vote, he landed up with just over 200 electoral votes. That's a BIG math problem.

"You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all if the time."
Here are a few observations on the reelection of President Obama.
- When the extreme element of the RP began "inventing" facts, they became delusional. Their emotion, self interest and hatred for a black president dumbed them down.
- The RP has not keep up with the changing demographics of our country. Also, not all whites are afraid of this irreversible change.
- Punitive immigration stances, rejection of the Dream Act, Lilly Ledbetter fair pay act, Neanderthal attitudes towards women and gays, and voter suppression tactics...all backfired.
- Misreading that Americans do want the Affordable Care Act codified.
- Picking Paul Ryan over Rob Portman dumb move.
- The RP has shifted much, much more to the right than the DP to the left...RP intolerance was denied.
- Religious pluralism is here to stay.
- The future will be determined by more women than men being better educated, having higher incomes, and in positions of legislative power.

An excerpt from the Denison Forum by Jim Denison:
Now that our election has been decided, how do we move forward?
As of today, we are no longer red or blue states—combining the two colors, we are now purple ("We the purple," to rephrase the Constitution). Unity is possible without unanimity, a fact proven by Christians when we gather for worship every seven days. Democrats, Republicans, and Independents share space in our sanctuaries. If we can find fellowship on the weekend, we can find it during the week.
I pledge to pray every day for President Obama, in obedience to Scripture: "I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness" (1 Timothy 2:1-2). I pledge to work for spiritual awakening and moral renewal in this nation I love. And I pledge my highest allegiance not to any president but to our King.

Well, if you don't have a job, you are lucky to be able to afford health insurance. And if your premiums have skyrocketed, blame the insurance companies. The new healthcare bill, which really hasn't even taken full effect yet, is supposed to put a cap on how much your insurance can go up. I have talked to people who are employed (yes, I am unemployed) and they all say their premiums have gone up just a minimum. I just looked at insurance rates for me (even though I can't afford anything) and they are the same as they were last year. I think that all of the people who are screaming that their premiums have skyrocketed are exaggerating. Or else you really need to have a talk with your employer.

I am sorry that you do not have a job, and I do hope you have one soon.
However, your healthcare has not skyrocketted because of Obama.
This is when education comes in....see most of Obamacare has not even kicked in yet and will not until 2014. The only things that have kicked in are kids can stay on their parents healthcare until their 26, You cannot be denied for pre-existing conditions and the donut hole in Medicare has been closed.
If your premiums are higher, blame the greedy healthcare payers (Republicans) who pass along a variety of increases to all of us that cause our premiums to go up every year just to pay their shareholders.
So in conclusion...not sure who you have been listening too...(Fox and Rush) but what you have said about healthcare...is simply not true.

Our deficit is what it is mainly due to the wars, which have not fully ended. When we pull out next year spending will go down. Solyndra went belly up and lost money. You are right about that...

Slaves have a new master. The people that voted for Obama did so out of selfishness and spite. He spent billions of "our" money to literally pay off states to vote for Obamacare. You'll be lucky to see a nurse, and before long you'll be lucky to see a nurse's assistant. I have enough money to leave the country, and will start by trading in US dollars before it becomes even more devalued, but most people don't. The leaches will have to turn their free cell phones back in now that he doesn't need to text them to remind them to vote. He doesn't need to buy them food either. Watch for those benefits to get cut way back. The guy is a typical Chicago style gangster politician, union style thug. He knows well how to manipulate ignorant lazy people, just promise them free stuff.
I didn't like much of the Republican stance on social issues, but diving the country head first into bankruptcy just to "get revenge" on those who dared to work hard and save is pure idiocy. Poor people will get far poorer, old people will get far less health insurance, though that might be warranted seeing as how they are taking advantage of this freebie at every opportunity. Obama hasn't a clue how to run an economy. Wait and see. Businesses can now stop waiting for new president and take their money and run or pull even farther back. Greed catches up with you....

Re: "...diving the country head first into bankruptcy just to "get revenge" on those who dared to work hard and save is pure idiocy."
The irony here is that those who claim to care about deficits voted twice for the guys who created them (i.e., George Bush and Dick "deficits don't matter" Cheney). Then, yesterday, they voted for a guy whose promises would have added at least another $9 trillion to our national debt. ($1 trillion to make the Bush tax cuts permanent, $5 trillion to reduce Bush's tax rates by another 20 percent, $2 trillion to increase defense spending, $1 trillion additional Medicare spending caused by repealing ObamaCare.)
I'm sorry, but I can't take seriously anybody who voted for Bush and Romney while claiming to care about balancing our budget. Recall that Clinton didn't balance the budget by cutting taxes and spending. To the contrary, he raised taxes and spending grew during his entire tenure. He balanced the budget by putting more Americans to work, growing the middle class, and growing the economy.

Eddi, I take offense to your statement assuming those who voted for Obama did so out of selfishness & spite. I voted after gathering FACTS through my OWN research & study & not based on anything Fox News said or any other person. I had an issue with Romney not being able to address women receiving equal pay; had an issue with Romney wanting the Govt to tell a woman what she can do with her body; had an issue with Romney flip flopping and not really taking a real stance on anything; had an issue because Romney did not fully disclose what he planned to do; had an issue with Romney proudly down talking the 47%...I watched each debate & listened intently to what both parties had to say about everything...
Obama has done pretty darn good running things - but it does take everyone working together and not bickering back and forth...Regardless of who won, someone was bound to not be happy...The election is over...concentrate now on who you will vote for in 2 years...the media is predicting in 2016 more states will become swing states...thus making it harder and harder for candidates to just automatically win a state...And Texas was one of the states they named...
And please don't bother to reply because I have said all I have to say and am now done with it all...
Thanks!

I watch the talking heads on Fox occasionally and for a good laugh will turn on talk radio, the problem with both these sources is they are preaching to their choir. When this is the only exposure you have then you think the whole country has gone to hell, that Obama is a socialist, and he is shredding the constitution (whatever that is supposed to mean) This thought process is bolstered by the reaffirmation of the host and all the callers...but that is the choir. The rest of us are out here going about our lives watching our 401-k finally gain back value, and our business and incomes grow.
My friends and family are getting not only new jobs but better jobs and the housing market is coming back. I can only speak for my circle of knowledge but yes we are doing better than four years ago, and if you want clearer picture of the country you will not get it from Rush! I wasn't a bit surprised, and never thought it would be close because I don't just listen to the choir (and that goes for MSNBC) I find and consider numerous and varied opions and they pointed to a clear Obama victory since the conventions.

So, you really don't care about the people who can't afford insurance. Do you believe that people should just be allowed to die out because they can't afford to go to the doctor? If I had a job and I had good insurance, I would not mind paying a little more so that less-fortunate people could get affordable coverage. That's what this country should be - people helping people instead of kicking them when they are down. The healthcare plan will be pitting selfish against non-selfish people.

Actually, Leah, most provisions of ObamaCare ARE in effect. The big provisions that kick in in 2014 are the insurance exchanges, the ability to purchase coverage without having to be concerned about being denied because of pre-existing conditions, and the health insurance mandate (mathematically, more insureds means lower premiums for everybody, relative to the premiums that we would otherwise have had to pay).

Thanks for the link, C.J. I would like for everybody who opposes the bill to look at that timeline and tell me what is bad about it. The thing my brother has a problem with is, in 2014, everybody will be required to get insurance. Now, "everybody" is not right. If you can't afford it or your religion prohibits it, you will not be required. Not to mention, small businesses are getting nice tax breaks if they provide insurance to their employees. And small companies can "shop" at the exchanges which will be in place next year. So I would like for the people who oppose the plan to explain exactly why you don't like it.

The polls were not skewed, climate science is not a hoax, ObamaCare does not increase deficits, tax cuts for the wealthy and more defense spending do not reduce deficits, President Obama was not born in Kenya, health insurance mandates are not unconstitutional,...
I continue to be amazed that so many can be so cocky while simultaneously being so wrong.
Mr. B
2:25 pm on Wednesday, November 7, 2012
Polls are skewed by pollsters. I speak from the experience of working for corporate Gallup for a brief time in my career. We could sdetermine the outcome we wanted just by wording of the question. It's a science.
Climate science, as preached by Al Gore is a hoax. However, there are things occurring to the climate that are caused by pollution. But there is NOTHING that we as Americans can do to make any change. Visit Asia and look at the pollution belching from their factories and cars. There is no offset we could fathom that would help.
Tax cuts for the wealthy and more defense spending would need to be offset with cuts elsewhere to reduce deficits. However, increased taxes on the wealthy without defense spending would still not reduce deficits. Spending is out of control in all aspects of government.
Obama was not born in Kenya. BUt that didn't keep him from studying and embracing socialism in America.
Health insurance mandates, when in the form of taxes are not unconstitutional. There is nothing in the constitution to prevent 100% tax rates.
I'm not cocky but I am right.

Actually, nationwide health insurance premium increases have averaged 4 percent this year, partially because ObamaCare required insurers to refund premiums that weren't spent on, you know, health care. That's pretty darn low compared to the increases that we enjoyed during the Bush years.

Apparently, you have not been paying close attention to premium costs over the last couple of decades.
To wit, from 1993-2000 premiums were fairly flat (thanks to the efforts from the Clinton's and realization in the healthcare industry that excessive greed might bring unwanted scrutiny).
Beginning in 2001, our company was subjected to consistent annual increases of at least 300% of inflation.
'Obamacare' was not to blame, inaction by the shrub administration was.
For the last 4 years, my premium increases have been closer to the previous 12 month's inflation.

In Colorado, 55% of voters approved Amendment 64, a constitutional amendment that allows those age 21 or older to legally possess up to one ounce of cannabis and cultivate up to six cannabis plants in the privacy of their home. In Washington, 55% of voters decided in favor of I-502, which removes statewide criminal penalties for adults who possess up to one ounce of cannabis for personal use. It has been the Republican goal to objectify people as "others." You could see it with the handling of Romney. When did we most hear about Romney was a Mormon? It was during the Republican primaries. Even if it was the repeated "Oh, the fact that he is a MORMON doesn't bother me;" it meant constantly making sure that his religion was at the front of every discussion, almost like a backhanded compliment; keeping it out there as a dog whistle because they knew that it struck a chord in the base.
Then when the national election was between Obama and Romney, the mention of his religion was rarely ever heard about again. What you mainly saw from Republicans were these same portrayals of Obama as some sort of "other." Actually, not even a singular "other," but objectifying him as some other religion, some other nationality, some other completely different political philosophy, etc. This is the strongest tool that the Republican party has to fight their political races and to divide the country by compartmentalizing people into these groups with varying and conflicting (and mostly fictitious) agendas.
For anybody who was spewing such vile rhetoric on sites like Patch, at family picnics or at the local pub, no matter the greater good that you perceived and used to justify it in your head, I think that today is a day for looking in the mirror as the whole Republican party ought to be doing right now. Yesterday, this great nation overwhelmingly rejected that way of thinking.

A great day for America and the world!....as President Obama stated in his speech: America's wealth is its great diversity.
That is our exceptionalism and as soon as we learn to appreciate that we will move forward in unity in diversity--the true destiny of America. We are experiencing a new American cultural revolution and a changing of the guard, so to speak, where women, minorities, and other people who have been dominated by white men will have a say and share in the direction we go. It may be painful for a while, especially to the old guard, but all new births are accompanied by pain before the joy. I am glad to be alive and participating in this age.

I just want a job, now! With benefits, but now that Obama has been re elected I may just go on food stamps and disability. Join the club. I worked hard all my life and for what? Higher taxes? No Medicare? No social security? This is now a welfare nation people. Open your eyes!
Pam J

Good luck with the food stamps and the disability. I have been unemployed for nearly three years, and as long as you live with somebody who brings in money (regardless of who it is), you will not be approved for food stamps. And I think you are talking about the wrong person when referring to no Medicare or social security. It's the Republicans that want to do away with those two things. But I have found out one thing today, with all of my conservative friends, you people cannot be reasoned with today. You lost and you are not happy. I understand. I felt the same way when Bush was re-elected. But, for once, you guys are outnumbered here. Rex hasn't even made an appearance.

This is for the women - when the LillyLedbetter bill was repassed in 2009, Mitt Romney (and most other Republications) refused to sign it. And Mitt said recently that if it came across his desk again if he was elected, he didn't know if he would sign it. Now, if you are a female with any independence in you, you should be madder than heck about that. And if you don't know what the Lilly Ledbetter bill is, it's about women making the same salary as men doing the same job. Since a lot of Mormon women don't work, they don't care. The rest of us do.
Meesay
11:54 pm on Wednesday, November 7, 2012
He wasn't sure if he should sign it because it might cause thousands of new lawsuits. But of course it would take common sense to know that adding more vague regulations HURTS business which also HURTS women's ability to get good jobs. It's not as simple as him not signing something as if he hates women. You are TOO gullible and easily manipulated by your puppet masters.
Pam J
7:34 am on Thursday, November 8, 2012
Edi, you are a hoot. Did you see him trying to explain why he didn't sign it? Like a deer caught in headlights. And do you think that women should just accept that they will make less than men? That they should not fight it. I had a job with a company several years ago and they hired this guy to do the exact same thing I was doing. I had been there for four years at that point. A year later, I find out that he is making $10,000 more a year than I am. I asked my supervisor why that was, and he told me that it was because he was a man, with a family to support. I'm not sure if you are a man or woman, but that should not be allowed. There should be more lawsuits if it will fix the problem. And you need to get over that puppet master thing. That and the kool-aid references you guys are fond of are getting old and are not very funny or interesting.
Mr. B

I don't disagree that equally qualified women should be paid the same as men. My questions is why would Romney need to sign this bill? What government position did he hold in 2009 that would require his signature? It sounds like you are being mislead or are attempting to mislead people. Romney lost, no reason to continue beating him down.
Pam J
9:53 am on Thursday, November 8, 2012
Sorry, I should have said that he said he would not have signed the bill if he was president in 2009. He never could be pinned down on how he really felt about it. I'm sorry if I didn't want a man who apparently didn't think in equality in the White House. I just saw yesterday that 60% of single women voted for Obama. That's how scared we were of Romney. As as long as you and Edi are commenting about how bad Obama is, we are still going to defend him and explain why Romney did not win.

People honestly believe they can get something for nothing because they are in denial about reality.
The real rich, who btw, got that way because they are smart and hard working, not gullible and naive, are now looking for new opportunities, in other countries, with higher standards of living, better education and better health care. I feel sorry for those left behind. Especially the ones who think they will have MORE freedom.
Mitt Romney would have been a great leader, instead of a whining wimp still blaming the last president. Is Clinton blaming Reagan for the great economy he got handed on a silver platter? Reagan got handed a trashed economy thanks to peanut farmer Carter, did he complain or get to work? Four more years of debt, four more years where business will hire as few as possible, or close shop, where health care will be trashed and hard to get, where the poor will stay poor instead of having opportunity. I wouldn't be so proud of yourselves. I was able to overlook the Repub social bs in order to have prosperity. Again, I am fascinated by how the far right Republicans have invented their own facts and reality just because they can't stand any one or any thing from challenging or disagreeing with them. They have reinvented facts with respect to polling data, global warming, economic growth, WMD, evolution, the Constitution, Civil Rights, religion, voter fraud, women's rights, welfare, immigration, and LGBT issues as examples. So they suck in the propaganda talking points from Fox, Limbaugh, Beck, Coulter, O'Reilly, etc., and eventually become delusional and out of touch with reality. They begin to constantly, relentlessly smell their own exhaust, close off listening or attempting to seek out broad perspectives, and end up blindly following hate and fear ideology. So when I see articles that spell out the RP was surprised by the demographic shift in our country and its impact on voting trends, I have to think....WTF! When I watch Bill O'Reilly feign disbelief why single women would vote for President Obama over Mitt Romney and the RP, I have to think....WTF! When I see the unchallenged disconnect within the RP that they want smaller government, yet they are advocating policies that expands government's role in women's reproductive rights and choices...I have to think...WTF!

Mr. B, we try not to slant one way or another but to let the conversation reflect the community, which is why this conversation is usually left alone as much as possible. That is unless someone completely violates our terms by making personal attacks on other people commenting or by using offensive language. We've had to delete comments from both sides of the argument. Some people manage to slip though by making offensive comments, but not directing them at any person in particular. We always hope that eventually wise men and women will be able to disagree agreeably. Think we stand a chance?

I've just noticed several comments regarding employment. After 40 years of hiring and dismissing a countless number of workers, I experienced that in addition to job knowlwdge and capability to do the job, the attributes of a positive attitude and willingness to work with a wide range of people was just as important. I had a lot of folks with great ability but they couldn't get along and work well with other employees or customers. They had to go. This especially became an issue as we started hiring more African Americans and had more African American customers. There were many white men and women who lost out on promotions or were dismissed because they allowed their biased attitudes to affect their work and ability to work with other blacks. This also played out as we hired more women, gays and non-Christians. So the world demographically changed but many men and women did grow up and adapt to it. Final observation...when I had to let them go, many blamed everyone else except their short comings. Yep, the world changed and folks couldn't move forward. They lived and lost out by trying to hold on to the past.

Every comment on here just makes me want to cry. So much hate for the other half of the country (from whatever side you're on). Instead of panicking about how the world is going to end or we'll all doomed, why not try to fix what we can? The world is changing - let's take advantage of it instead of declaring war on ourselves. Get involved in your local government, make a positive impact instead of trolling on the internet. Know that in 2 years we will elect new congressmen, and 2 after that we'll elect another president. The hateful, apocalyptic rhetoric needs to stop or we WILL be in trouble.

Leah, I read both of Obama's books, and that's one of the reasons I voted for him (twice). The first was a masterpiece, but the second seemed like a rushed political statement. However, I'm looking forward to his third, his presidential memoirs, which I'm expecting to rival those of Ulyssyes S. Grant.

All my posts being deleted now. Haven't used one foul word. I realize Democrats do not favor free speech if it is not in their favor, but How's this censors: Obama has had to fire several top military brass. Military writers believe it was because of talk of a coup if he wins. Fact: TWO THIRDS of the deaths in Afghanistan have been under Obama, even though only half the time in office as Bush. Just google it. The Democrats were screaming about Bush and war but I have heard barely a peep about Obama and the fatalities due to too few forces being sent into dangerous conditions. In my opinion, any president that would ask half his country to hate the other half for being successful is clearly insane, and his followers brainwashed cultists. The rich will leave if Obama keeps pushing towards socialism. New Zealand tried that route and reversed course after realizing how terrible a mistake it was and how it trashed their economy. Wonder if or when Americans will finally wake up?

Don't worry, Edi, some of my comments weren't printed and I didn't really say anything bad either. I think the Patch editors got very, very gun shy with the comments from the last debate comment thread. That was a free-for-all, 800+ comments thread before they shut it down. We can all have different opinions, but we should be civil about it. And I think that Americans are awake. That's why Obama got elected. The Republicans just need to adapt to modern times a little more. Most of the Republicans I know (and some are family members) don't like blacks or Hispanics, gambling, drinking or anything else "normal". Just loosen up a little and everything will be fine.

Greetings, readers-
A few people have raised questions about the moderation of comments on this article, so I wanted to take a moment to address that. We know that some past threads on the presidential race have gotten heated, with some readers feeling that others were attacking them personally.
In an effort to allow lively debate, but keep things civil, this article is being pre-moderated. Some comments have not been published because they contained vulgar language or went over the line in attacking other readers.
I hope this clears up any questions, and thanks for reading Patch.

Anna, has Patch considered shutting down the comments section for a couple of days? I'm being serious. I totally understand that posting comments to Patch is a privilege, not a right. Frankly, you folks at Patch are nicer than me. I find the vast majority of comments to be immature and not pertaining to the issues being addressed. Most of the folks who post comments are unable to address the issue at hand without using comments like "the liberals" or "the right wing nuts". I could say much more, but I'll stop here.

America is going broke. The Greeks also voted to continue the freebies but no more money so they are again rioting as if that will do anything for their economy. Obama is all about himself, a classic malignant narcissist, he couldn'y care less that he is bankrupting the nation as long as he and his get to enjoy the ride. Michelle is all about reperations. This is reperations Obama style. When Obama is out off office he'll be the typical ex crook politician, rich and rocking with his billionaire hollywood pals. Liberals are so gullible. It's sad how easily they were duped. All could have shared in wealth and prosperity, but the left is so full of hate, greed, revenge, and jealousy that they act like anyone with decent savings must have robbed little old ladies. No, the rich worked long hours to get rich for the most part. A few cheated, very few, far fewer than the billions Obama has spent on green energy corps and unions. The media is to blame. They hid the truth. They are the sickest of them all, the true selllouts. The true traitors to America. If they had been honest Obama would have lost by a landslide.

@ Edi - Liberals are gullible? How about right wingnuts who believed everything their talking heads told them??
Be real - we re not living in the olden days, so it's time to maybe dust off the party platform and modernize it - realize the country is not a bunch of old white guys, and that times have changed - EVOLVE a little...
Green energy needs to be an important part of our future, because face reality - there is only so much consumable energy source on the planet, and the fact big coal, auto, oil and energy recognize that, and realize it will cut into their monopoly - they will fight it tooth and nail - and have, with lobbyist help - what scares you about green energy? why is it bad?
And if you think the media hides the truth, you are very correct, but both sides do - don't think for one minute that there is any integrity out there - Faux news told it's base exactly what it wanted to hear, and that's why you are all shell shocked that your golden child didn't win... Same reason why the liberal media hid the fact there is actually 3rd party candidates running on moderate platforms that are viable alternatives to the established chosen ones..
America is going broke for the policies of the last 30+ years, so leave your contempt and bigoted hatred for Obama at home and take off your blinders and realize we screwed up our country starting back in the 70's!

Here is what I observe happening. In this pattern of re-inventing facts and deception, the Republican Party, its candidates or backers play a game of "throw back." By that I mean when they are caught doing something inappropriate and over the line in their quest to pump up their base and win at all cost, they accuse the Democratic Party of doing the dirty deed. As an example...voter suppression. The calculated and national attempt by Republicans to disenfranchise segments of the voter population who likely would vote Democrat is clearly documented. Yet I heard Carl Rove give as one of many reasons why MR lost was voter suppression by the Democrats. My, my, my. Conversely, when the Democrats do something good, the Republicans play a game of "take away" by taking credit for the good deed. An obvious example is the re-write of Civil Rights history by Republicans claiming they were the driving force for racial change and justice. My, my, my. No wonder the extreme right of the RP is confused. They have bought this game of deflection and deception hook, line and sinker. I don't know if I want to laugh or cry. Regardless, it's scary.

Why would anyone want to be with a political party that will practice such deceptions? I want a winner who does it the honest way. If the Democrats had won the WH with those Republican tactics, I would be ashamed, not proud. Strategy is how you get the votes, but without cheating - that's why the President was re-elected. He has A U T H E N T I C I T Y !

8:42 am on Friday, November 9, 2012
@N Ga Weather - But also recognize the fact the RP made it their stated mission to make sure he was a one term president - they couldn't find the time to complete their work, but made sure to vote to repeal obamacare 30+ times! They blocked and impeded any potential legislation to help up get out of the mess quickly, they filibustered a record number of times, and as a result, guess what - they were the lowest rated congress in the history of record keeping!! And they failed at their primary mission to boot!!
Both side played a game of chicken and we got caught in the middle - THAT is what put us in the mess we are in, not one man.
And you are absolutely correct - both parties are at fault, and why? Because lobbyist and special interest matters more than the will of the people...

Will they redirect their funding away from the $58,700,000 a year they are paying Rush and the $33,000,000 a year being paid to Glen Beck, how about the $22,000,000 paid the Sean Hannity or the 20,000,000 paid to O'Rielly.

David, I understand your frustration. But what is served by shutting down the comments? I find the comments helpful in that they reveal what many in our society are thinking but never express in everyday life. For instance, I have the opportunity to visit many large corporations daily. When I go through and observe break rooms and cafeterias, there usually are TV monitors on. My estimate is that 75% of the employees are white and 75% of the TV monitors are tuned into FoxNews. So we have a large segment of that company's employee base dialed into and listening to the harshness (I'm being kind here) of Fox commentators directly and indirectly attacking and accusing the black, Hispanic employees of terrible things, while at the same time defending the roll back of women reproductive choices and rights. When observing these dynamics, the 75% employee base seem to have no sense of how the other 25% of their co-workers might feel. If they did, maybe someone would turn the dial to another, less controversial station. But the Fox commentators are spewing what the 75% of whites believe but never discuss. My point is the Patch is real, it's a reflection of society, and many of the comments are from people who only watch one or two TV or radio stations, they do not have wide diverse sources of opinions, and simply are mimicking the talking from SH, RL, BO, AC, CR, GB and company.
Pete

Americans are shell shocked because they bought the story they have been fed - Faux news is nothing but a propaganda arm for the republican party - no different than CNBC is the propaganda arm for the democratic party.
I am quite enlightened here on the patch, listening to the debate as much as listening to strangers on the street spout talking points from their selected commentator about what is wrong with the country...I've had many a conversation with educated people on both sides who I respect their opinions and have valid arguments - not the "he sucks" guys you tend to see reciting Rush's last broadcast..
It's funny, how the extreme case minority of something ends up representing the entirety, like welfare, like religion, like the republican party..
The exit polls show it - more than 1/2 of the people in this country can care less if gays marry, pot is legal, etc. yet the RP gets hijacked by the religious right, alienating moderate or liberal leaning republicans.

David, a couple of other points to consider. I have many friends and associates call me since Tuesday's elections and say the mood inside their company is somber. They observed there is a sense of tension, almost disbelief from mainly white employees that the President was re-elected. They never saw it coming because many sincerely thought Romney was going to win in a landslide. Finally, if you read any electronic media news sources, look at the reader's comments following any article about public events. Regardless of the news source, the reader comments pretty much mirror what folks on the Patch say. So, shutting down comments for a couple of days really serves no purpose in my opinion. The rhetoric you/we find offensive only continues.

There are more people who are unemployed, therefore more people on welfare. Whether that is Obama's fault or not, the conservatives love talking about the unemployment rate. I honestly believe the 20% increase includes "normal" people who worked hard and lost their jobs. I would be on welfare except that I don't have any kids and I have family members to take care of me. Yes and yes. It's not that Obamacare has or has not kicked in yet. It's that people are preparing for it. Employers can't hire, they fire. Insurance costs go up on average 10-15% a year! I know. I have my own business.

Please don't take offense, but stop drinking the kool-aid! The pundits I mentioned above are paid those high salaries to deliver hate mongering subject matter produced by the extreme conservative think tanks whose primary goal is to REDUCE OR ELIMINATE TAXES FOR THE WEALTHY!

Zachary A, I petitioned against the RaceTrac because they wanted to build next to a Horse Farm Conservancy. The entrance would be right by the horses and they are equine horses. It had nothing to do with employment, but rather to save our precious green space. There is a QT directly across the street where they wanted to place it which would have been treacherous to a peaceful neighborhood and sanctuary where there is a lot of wild life. The noise and pollution would have been detrimental to the horses and riders. 24/7 RaceTrac there? Come on! We implored them to build just up the street where there is a vacant car lot already cemented. We told them to build it there, no, they wanted to compete across the street from QT. I have nothing against jobs. This had to do with green space and the safety of horses! You know nothing about it.

You don't see the irony in this - there is a proposed pipeline that runs through some of the most beautiful scenery in the country, precious green space.
The noise and pollution would be detrimental to anyone nearby. The pipeline would not directly affect us in the slightest, other than allow some temporary construction jobs, yet this is perfectly ok with you?. I never understand the hypocrisy of the RP - on one hand, if it is in your back yard you are all about saving the green, but elsewhere you can care less..

So now business owners are following through with their threat to lay off workers if Obama is re-elected. They claim that they can't afford Obamacare.
No what? Higher unemployment? Who pays for the insurance for unemployed people?
Pam J
1:51 pm on Friday, November 9, 2012
The unemployed pay for their own insurance. If you are laid off, you can go through the COBRA program. The rates are a little lower and if you have the money, you can pay it. I was, but I paid one day late and they cancelled. Appealed and they still didn't approve me. If you want to blame anybody for the insurance problems, blame the insurance companies. They are in business to make money. If a company won't hire because of the health care plan, they are being unreasonable. If you have a big company, it won't make much difference to your bottom line. If you have a small company (50 employees or less), you won't even be required to provide insurance. I'm assuming that most people who are against the plan and who are commenting on here during the day and have their own companies have fewer than 50 employees. People are seeing a big scary monster where there isn't one. If your insurance rates have gone up a lot, complain to the insurance company. Fight them. The last company I worked for did not charge us anything for our insurance for the first four years I worked there. In the fifth year, the deductibles went up, the six year, the deductibles went up and we had money taken out of our paychecks for premiums. That was during the Bush reign. So insurance rates are not just now going up. They have been for a long time. I don't expect any of you to understand that, though.
Pam J

Also, who pays for the medical care for all the poor guys and gals that got maimed in Iraq? The military branches, which are all part of the government. I think everybody just doesn't think about that. There are bookoo bucks being spent to help those brave men and women who fought that war that should not have happened.
Mr. B
3:52 pm on Friday, November 9, 2012
COBRA is not less expensive than insurance on the open market. It only last for 18 months max. If you don't pay your premiums on time, then you should expect it to be cancelled. Our service men and women are covered through the VA. They earned that by defending our country and your right to stay home and on the internet all day speaking freely. All companies, insurance or otherwise are in business to make a profit. Specifically to grow faster than the rate of inflation.
Pam J
11:25 am on Saturday, November 10, 2012
Mr. B, so instead of addressing the important parts of my comment, about how insurance rates have been going up for years, you focused in the fact that I paid my premium one day late. When I was paying for the COBRA, it was $175 a month, for great coverage. As soon as it was canceled I started looking for another policy. The cheapest I could find, with nowhere near the coverage I had, was $350 a month. So, yes, COBRA was cheaper.

Pam J
10:59 am on Sunday, November 11, 2012
Lissa, yes, COBRA is more expensive than insurance you have while you are employed. COBRA is for when you lose your job. A friend of mine just started COBRA, and she is going to pay $185 a month for the same coverage she had while employed. She paid about $100 a month from her paycheck while she was employed. She did look at other companies (Blue Cross, Kaiser, Aetna, etc.), but the cheapest rate she could find for comparable services was $500 a month. COBRA just lasts for 18 months, but that's a long time, relatively speaking.

Interesting statistics. There are people in this country who are really not smart enough to work. No training in the world can help those people. It does not keep them from having sex and babies, but working is nearly impossible. Is it right that the government should have to take care of "stupid" people and the kids they produce? Probably not and something really should be done about the issue. Now, with so many people being out of work, there will be more people getting public assistance. It really is not easy to get any if you are a single, white woman, but apparently it is easy for other people. Now, until the job market really improves and a bunch of people go back to work, those people will be getting assistance. If I didn't have family members to help me and I could have qualified for food stamps, I would have used them without any hesitation. I did not choose to be unemployed for this long, and as long as companies choose to discriminate against the unemployed and people whose credit has been screwed up because of said unemployment, more people will be on government assistance. The Republicans used the unemployment rate against the President. But nobody seems to have any idea about how to fix the problem. And, no, I don't think that Romney could have done anything to make the situation better.

And everyone needs to know this - In 2010, the richest 1% in the US captured an astonishing 93% of that year's gain in incomes. In the same year, corporate chief executives made, on average, 243 times as much as the median worker (in 1965 the ratio was 10 times lower). Between 1970 and 2010, the Gini coefficient, which measures inequality, rose in the US from 0.35 to 0.44: an astounding leap.

Here is the reality...if you don't think you're being compensated fairly, go work somewhere else. Someone has to be capable of running the company. That person (or persons) should be compensated more than the guy sweeping the floor because it takes more skill. The floor sweeper can't be compensated equally as the CEO; otherwise we would all be floor sweepers. We would have very clean plants but no sales or production.

Mr. B, Au contrair mon ami. Thinking forward is a good thing. Trying to hold onto a past that is never coming back stunts growth. There are some folks who still reenact the Confederate Civil War stuff. I am not saying you do that, but observing folks who do appears very out of touch and stunted. The white man being at the power wheel will soon be a thing of the past. Bill O'Reiily was crying last night on Fox the "end of traditional America." That's code for white men losing control of their world and way of doing things. As a white man I want to grow and evolve. I have a choice. Evolve or become angry, afraid, bitter, or paranoid. Finally and contrary those Christians who believed Jesus was walking with dinosaurs 2k years ago, but 230 million years dinosaurs ruled the roost. Good Grief, thanks for the article. The 1% R's promote the idea that "women and minorities are parasites" to keep the heat off of them while making millions through outsourcing, war, and down right lies. And then there are the "entertainers," Rove, Limbaugh, Beck, and Hannity spinning their ideas and THEY ALL live very well. They make and have access to millions. The $100 mil that Rove blew could have provided jobs and healthcare for a lot of people. Now the corporations and business owners (excuse me, donors) who gave money to Mitt & Rove are angry. So they fire the employees; manipulate the stock market; and then blame Pres Obama. Mitt will go home and enjoy his millions and Rove will keep his job making and bringing in millions and I am not mad at them.

continued...I am employed but not judgmental toward those in need. There are people, minorities as well, who want jobs and prefer not to receive public assistance. When jobs are outsourced and people do not have family members to assist them, then public assistance is an option until they get can back on their feet. Just because you see more minorities in a food stamp office or using their cards, doesn't mean that they are the only ones receiving assistance. If you have a computer and a phone, you can apply on-line, speak to a counselor and never go to an office. Those who do not want their friends and neighbors to know, shop late at night or early morns. They are not "parasites." They are in need given the state of the economy at this time. And we should be doing all we can to get the country back on its feet. This country was built by multiple races, not one and certainly not the 1% exclusively. Rome wasn't built in a day and the mess left by Pres Bush after 8 yrs couldn't be cleaned up in 4. If we didn't think about our children or grands future when he started the war in Iraq costing billions with Cheney's former company making millions, why blame Pres Obama? Not to mention all of the deceased and injured young men and women who fought. If we give it a little thought, we might realize who the true "parasites" and benefactors of "welfare" are in our country. Its just a matter of acceptance. And over 50% of the voters spoke loud and clear 11/6/12.

Bottom line: America has changed and is changing...as is the world... away from a white, wealthy, male dominated society, which was largely characterized by exploitation and exclusion, to one which is more reflective of the wonderful diversity of humanity, including women, and which is more characterized by equity and inclusion. This is the real exceptionalism of America--our incredible diversity, unlike any other society. This election reflects that and eventually Georgia will catch up with the 21st century and this realization. It is a wonderful time to be alive and be part of this cultural and spiritual revolution--which is another step in the maturing and progress of humanity. I know it is painful for those who are not accustomed to change, especially those who have been used to being on top and privileged primarily by the accidental color of their skin, and we will try to make the transition as painless as possible but we need your cooperation to do so, the first step of which is to come out of your denial of your addiction to power and privilege. As a white male, I'll let you in on a little secret, there's no control room of old white guys secretly running the world "exploiting" and "excluding" people.
What has been changing in Western Europe for the last few decades, and is showing up more and more here, is an attitude that the government is here to provide for you and take care of you, in sort of a parental role. This has nothing to do race. Further, capitalist success evil is now viewed as evil, even President Obama in his own book referred to being "behind enemy lines" in the ONE time he worked in the private sector.

Dacula Dude: First of all, as white males, we don't have a clue what people of color go through in this country. That is the only thing we know for sure. Secondly, we also know, unless we are in great denial, that we are extremely privileged as white males in this society simply because of our skin color. If you don't know and accept that then there is really no basis for discussion. Thirdly, because of this privilege, and our training that we are somehow superior, we have an ingrained attitude of arrogance and think we know it all. And there are two things I will agree with you on: 1) The white guys have no secret room and have never had to do it in secret (until now) because there was no one to compete with. (In terms of their plotting to remain on top and in control I can refer you to many books where they admit to doing so, including "Confessions of An Economic Hitman".) 2) Big government has traditionally been the only protection for minorities in this country and without it we would still have Jim Crow. When the states mature in their treatment of all as equals then we can diminish centralized big govt--I am all in favor of it.

Its funny how the left trys to tell the right how to solve their problems and become more liberal in their politics. You big dummies conservative ideas and conservatism is what sets us apart. Yall do yalls politics the way yall want and leave our politics to us. The only reason we lost is bcause alot of people on right just didnt warm up to romney who wasnt a true conservative. Hermain cain woild have tore obamas tale up.

Yes you run a 'true conservative' next time and tell me how much better 25% of the popular vote and 75 electoral votes does your cause.

Steve - if you could learn to spell and punctuate properly, it might help you to sound slightly more intelligent. People not warming up to Romney was not the only reason he lost. He lost because he ignored almost every issue other than the economy. He pandered to the religious far right and ignored many issues that are important to women and minorities.

Nobody could warm up to Romney, not even the guys spending hundreds of millions to see him get elected. He's not conservative, moderate or anything useful except in vulture capitalism and his church. The Rs only had 2 not-so-scary candidates on the debate stage - Huntsman, but he served under a Democratic POTUS, so was never going to get far, and Tim Pawlenty, but he was bland. The rest of the lot were fringe. Herman Cain was just in it for the exposure, like Newt, to promote himself for TV, Radio, books, speaking fees, whatever enterprise could earn the most dollars. Bless his heart, though, he did get excited there for awhile when he thought he had some credible supporters. Methinks he would have run out of rhymes before the general election.

Steve,
Who on the left is telling you how to solve your problems or to become more liberal?
The reason Romney lost is because 51% of the US realized that Mitt's priority was to become president and kill the safety nets that millions of Americans depend upon.
His plan, the Paul Ryan budjet would have eliminated thousands of jobs, increased the military spending while cutting taxes for the Koch brothers and the other extremely wealthy doners. Mitt would have updated the Bush doctrine and we would have been in war with Iran and possible North Korea within the first year.
More jobs would have been shipped to China and the hard working middle class such as you and I would be handed the bill to pass down to our grandchildren.

Agree that Cain would have locked it up, but the left was terrified of him and cut him off as soon as they could. His 999 plan was economically sound and would have given rebates to the poor and the people would be more in charge of the money than the feds. He has business sense, and truly understands the struggles of becoming something from nothing. He knows the black experience better than any modern minority because he's lived it. He's certainly more American than most presidents that have run since Reagan. He would have been good for our country. But he's....he's ....CONSERVATIVE!!!!! OFF WITH HIS HEAD!!
Actually, Steve, I believe that obama won for one of two reasons. One, the power of incumbency. It's better to have the devil you know than the devil you don't know. Although, Bush won his incumbency vote by way wider margins than obama, so that's an ecouraging sign for the comeback. Second, democrats are good at campaigning and know how to woo a constituency and immigrants are dependent on the government from the get-go. That simple. Conservatives need to get out and educate our new friends on how you become successful in America and let them catch the fever, then the good message that we had will take hold. Rubio is already in Iowa 4 years early. I have a feeling he'll make a run in 2016.
Zachary A
9:48 am on Sunday, November 11, 2012
Tammy,
Please explain this statement to me, "but the left was terrified of him and cut him off as soon as they could."
How did the left defeat Herman Cain?
In late October 2011, Politico reported that Cain had been accused by two women of sexual harassment and misconduct during his time as CEO of the National Restaurant Association in the late 1990s. Harassment accusations have since been made by two additional women. The restaurant organization which Cain headed made financial settlements to the complainants. Two of the four women have come forward publicly: Sharon Bialek and Karen Kraushaar.
On November 28, 2011, Cain asserted that a woman named Ginger White would be claiming to have had an affair with him, and that the allegation was not true. An interview with White was aired an hour later on Fox 5 in Atlanta. In the interview, White said the affair lasted 13 years and ended right before Cain announced his presidential campaign. On November 30, 2011, Herman Cain denounced allegations of sexual harassment and adultery as "character assassination" during an event in Dayton, Ohio.
On December 3, 2011, Cain announced he was "suspending" his campaign for the presidency following allegations of sexual harassment and adultery, which he denied, but were widely considered responsible for the sharp drop in his poll numbers.
The allegations that he sexually harrased these women does not bother you and you would have supported him anyway?
Mr. B
12:09 pm on Sunday, November 11, 2012
I think you just answered your own question Zach. The left defeated him by dragging up these allegations. BTW, you should look up the definition of the word "allegation."
Zachary A
2:32 pm on Sunday, November 11, 2012
Mr. B,
Are you saying that Fox 5 in Atlanta is the liberal left? Oh, I know the definition of allegation, that is when a women named Ginger White goes on the local fox affiliate and discloses intimate details involving her and Herman Cain. An affair that lasted more than a decade while Cain was married. The liberal left did report the story but they didn't interview Ms. White, That was reported by a sister company of Faux News. Has Herman Cain sued these four women for slander, If not, WHY?
Mr. B
2:53 pm on Sunday, November 11, 2012
You would have to ask that question of Mr. Cain. You might want to ask Ms. White who paid her off while you're at it.
Oh, is Fox 5 the liberal left? Fox 5 is just as sensational as the other local stations. Whatever trash they can dig up to get viewers. Doesn't matter what slant they put on it. I think it's Fox News, not local affiliates that follow their leader.

@ RP - here's a good question. I love America as a melting pot too. However, I think it all comes down to this: Do you want those people to be producers or takers? The republican message is that all can be producers. But that won't happen if there are more takers than producers. If you take from enough producers, there will be no one to "take" from. If our young people catch that fever, they will be able to turn a lot around for the better.
Rich "The Equalizer" Pellegrino
9:52 am on Sunday, November 11, 2012
Tammy, as with most simplistic dichotomies, your divide between and labeling of "producers and takers" does just not stand up. I have worked in the corporate world for decades at all levels and have found the biggest "takers" there (for some enlightenment of what I have witnessed first hand read the book "Confessions of an Economic Hitman"). Our whole system has been based on taking from those weaker than us and that is now changing. On the other hand, who are you to judge that a person sweeping the streets, performing all the labor for your "producers" , the police and firemen who protect your producers, the teachers who raise your producers--are not the producers. Do you know what enables industries and executives to produce jobs? It is when the middle class and poor spend money and buy the goods they make. What about the undocumented immigrants--the hardest working producers I have seen, doing the jobs no one else wants.
Rich "The Equalizer" Pellegrino
9:44 am on Sunday, November 11, 2012
Sorry, but you somehow bought the 47% myth of non-producers or takers. These are the veterans, the elderly, the working poor who work hard and do not make enough to feed, clothe and shelter their families while your producer fat cats live high on the hog. Anytime in history when the gap between the wealthiest and the poorest is this wide the country and civilization falls.
Zachary A

"The republican message is that all can be producers."
Is this why under the Bush administration 6 million jobs were taken from the US under the enhanced Bush FTA agreements and the US company owners produced jobs while opening shop in China and the other countries? This is what I call outsourcing, go to Staples, Sports Authority, Burlington Coat Factory, Guitar Center and Toys R Us and let me know how many Made in the US stickers you find on these store's products. All of these Businesses are owned by Bain Capital of which Mitt is the primary stock holder.
Pam J
9:51 am on Sunday, November 11, 2012
Tammy, there will be fewer "takers" when all of us unemployed people find jobs. I suggest you all contact your representatives and ask them to pass a law that makes it illegal to discriminate against people who are unemployed. As long as companies do that, unemployment will be high. There are a lot of people like me, whose unemployment benefits have run out. There have always been people who "milk" the system, but a lot of the increase in government aid costs are due to long-term unemployment. So if you want to blame somebody, blame the companies that won't hire us. I don't like "taking". I have been a "producer" my whole life. This is a horrible place to be. Sorry you can't understand that.
Mr. B
10:58 am on Sunday, November 11, 2012
Stop shopping at those places. Only buy American. YOU are the problem, not FTA's. Jobs would not be outsourced if you refused to buy outsourced products. This isn't rocket science, it's common sense. Use your intelligence for something other then hatred toward your fellow Americans.
Chris

Pam, just to clarify...you're saying the only people being hired are the ones that already have jobs. No unemployed people are returning to work because they are being discriminated against. So, the unemployment numbers that Obama used to show people returning to work were false. I wish you had made this known before the election. We might have a different president elect.

Mr. B, I have actually looked at job ads that stated that if you had been unemployed for more than six months, don't apply. If I can find those jobs, I will post the links. Six months is different from one, two, or three years. It's obvious to me that a lot of you (Mr. B, Tammy, Chris) have not been reading a lot about unemployment. I have read hundreds of articles about unemployment over the last couple of years. Reasons why people can't find jobs. Reasons why people can. Companies having strict rules as to who can apply (no long-term unemployment, live within 10 miles, good credit, specific experience, not training, but experience, etc.). Job ads are different than they were several years ago. I understand why they are doing that because they are getting hundreds of resumes. Quite frankly, I think I understand the situation better than anybody else. Being in that situation and all.
Mr. B
12:09 pm on Sunday, November 11, 2012
Pam, maybe you should stop believing everything you read. Or read more positive articles. The job market is tough, you may have to lower your expectations. There is no shame in waiting tables, washing cars, cleaning houses. It may not be as glamorous as what you were fired from but it's still a job with income. I don't know where you live but here in north Gwinnett, restaurants are begging for workers. A friens recently took a job at a local place and is making $600+ in tips weekly. You probably won't live in a Buckhead high-rise on $30K but it ain't bad.
Pam J
12:44 pm on Sunday, November 11, 2012
Mr. B, I live in Cobb County. I have applied at every restaurant and store out there. But like I said, unless you have the specific experience, it's highly likely you will not be called. I don't have any kind of restaurant or retail experience, so I assume that is why they are not calling me. Years ago, it would not have mattered. Companies were happy to hire untrained people and then train them. Now, because there are so many people applying for each job, they will probably have someone who has the experience, so they will be the first person picked. Which is really unfortunate because a lot of good people are probably being overlooked. Oh, and I have signed up with Sittercity to pet sit, I have applied for cleaning jobs, I have applied for every job that I was even remotely capable of doing. So, yes, I have lowered my standards. A lot.

Pam, I just called the Olive Garden in Canton. I spoke with the manager, told him I needed a job and was willing to take anything. Explained that I was out of work and had been since early this year, had no experience in food service but felt I was capable of doing anything with minimal to no training. He wanted me to start TODAY as a dishwasher and would evaluate me as a server or prep cook once I was on site. Over the phone!! No application!! No interview!! No resume!! Kinda makes me wonder how hard you are trying.

Mr. B, I am not going to even try to explain what I have done. No point. You will all try and find a way to criticize me. Been there, done that. So if you are going to try to "throw me under the bus", it ain't gonna happen. I know what I have done and I refuse to get in a boxing match with you. I just suggest you try and get laid off or fired when the unemployment rate is above 9% and see how easy it is.

You know, for anyone who is angry about the election results or who feels justified in putting down other people's beliefs, here's a recommendation: Leave the United States of America. Move to where you think you might be happier. Go to another country (Greece?) and get a well-paying job based on your experience and education - one with health services you don't have to wait months for. (like they do in Canada)

I think you have a good idea Karen but from the wrong view. Most of us conservatives are not angry about the election results, we're disappointed. There is a big difference. Disappointed means we care about the loss for the liberals too. All those people that blindly think things are going to be better with Obama for another four years. All those that think taxing the rich will relieve them of taxes. Wrong. Expenditures are so great, you could take all the money from the rich and make no real dent in the deficit. (BTW, I don't think Romney had a great plan either although he did understand the problem.)
Luckily, I haven't needed health services. And I don't need a job. But I would like to keep the money I've earned. I worked hard for it, have already paid taxes at the maximum tax rates, and feel I have more than done my part.
Another country is a good idea. I have chosen Costa Rica, primarily because I already own an investment/vacation property there. But what if all the people that are "angry" or disappointed went with me. Who pays for those left behind then?

Keep in mind that Nero was in power when Paul wrote Romans 13:1 and 2. Nero was nefarious, to put it mildly. OK. When I say takers, I'm not talking about those you mentioned. Immigrants, the hardworking? Yes, they are!!! Let's give them policies that can help them exceed and excel. But until then, they don't make enough to live on and have to live off the gov't. which creats a vicious cycle. Twice, no three times we've had businessmen run for office (Ross Perot, Herman Cain and Mitt Romney) and three times we chose the status quo of government over trying something new. I think that we need people who think in productive ways rather than politicians who only think in a linear way such as collect taxes and distribute. Obviously, something isn't working, is it?
Mr. B- good response to Karen. I agree. Disappointment more than anything that we stuck with the status quo. It's not a surprise that an incumbent got it. I just wish the American people would work together and find real solutions besides constantly raising taxes and letting money funnel through government (ie: some of it disappears before it gets to its goal). Believe me karen, mad is what liberals threathened (riots if Romney got it). Disappointment is daring to come on here knowing that a lot of immature people will name call (already had my name dragged through the mud- just immature and childish), and still offer solutions. That's called real hope.

EPU - One of Romney's campaign advisers, Carlos Gutierrez and Jon Huntsman on CNN:
The former Commerce Secretary said on "State of the Union" that Republicans like Todd Akin and Richard Mourdock made voters nervous with their comments about rape and abortion.
Blaming the party's predicament on the "incredibly ridiculous" primary process, Gutierrez said the GOP nominating contests forced candidates, including Romney, to say "outrageous things."
"It's almost as if though we [Republicans] are living in the past," Gutierrez said.
Agreeing with Gutierrez's push to the middle was Jon Huntsman, the former Utah governor who made a bid for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination.
Huntsman argued his party lacked a vision for the future, saying that rather than "moralizing to people" and focusing on social issues, people wanted to be "left alone." Like Gutierrez, Huntsman said the party needed to recognize "the cultural and demographic shifts that are profound in this country."

1st story received a fair amount of play on ABC, NBC and HuffPost. It happened about 6 mos before the Chick-fil-A controversy. I don't think these minorities will miss him nor would they have voted for him, if they could've.
Alcee Hasting(D-Fl) says Rep. Allen West (R-Fl) offended the entire Congressional Black Caucus by delivering Chick-fil-A chicken and biscuits to their weekly meeting - then walked out - when it was his turn to provide the group with a formal lunch.
“We have a rotation in the Congressional Black Caucus where every member provides the lunch one of the weeks when we meet,” Hastings said in an interview, the lunches are often quite delicious. We serve a full course meal but West “sent Chick-fil-A with biscuits. Ok?”
“That was an ‘in your face.’ Every member of the Congressional Black Caucus there was offended,” he said. “He did it deliberately.” Hastings said he saw West’s message as, “You know, ‘That’s what I think of you all.’”
2nd - Bob Crowder, the Republican who ran against Rep. Allen West in the primary, didn't mince his words.
“As a Republican for over 30 years, I'm embarrassed by the radical fringe that has taken over the party. Sadly, Allen West is their poster child, and the hateful, divisive comments he's made throughout this campaign make it clear to me he’s the wrong choice for our district.” His wife Debbie endorsed West's opponent as well.

Funny how they went away once he dropped out. He said that he received threats against his family as well. NO more replies to you. I've got better things to do than to have to correct hearsay.

David- all "authority" is placed by God. It does not mean he approves. In the OT, there were times that the Lord placed evil men over Israel to discipline her and bring her back to repentence. If every man over us was approved by God, then we wouldn't be in this mess, now would we? :) However, we are to respect the office and pray for them. God can change a heart. My politics and personal do mesh a little. I cannot in good conscience be a part of putting a man in office that says that because a mother had intended to abort a baby, she has the "right" to have it aborted, and if "it" lives, must be ALLOWED to stay on a table and die. Both the OT and the NT have a lot to say about the shedding of innocent blood. My convictions color my political views. I don't want to stand account for that one.

Tammy, we will have to agree to disagree at this point. Your exegesis of the Bible is very interesting.:) I'm as pro-life as you are, but I'm pro-life not just for the pre-born, but for the post-born also. I was extremely bothered that the issues of poverty and caring for "the least of these" didn't come up during the Presidential campaign. Those are pro-life issues. Enjoy the rest of your evening.

Tammy O...your thoughts and words are meaningless. The Presidential election repudiated any message of intolerance. Please have a nice life.

No problem David. I sincerely feel though that if we give these people that take a different approach to government a chance, they might help produce jobs that would serve these little ones. I serve in jail ministry and we help those people get jobs so that they can be productive. But as long as we are in this vicious cycle it becomes harder and harder. I guess my problem with O policies is that it penalizes those who are trying to make a dent in this big problem. Thank you for your mature, thoughtful conversation. I wish that patch would upgrade a bit and not tolerate people who have nothing better to do than to talk down to people and name call. I think I may find another venue to write in. But I do appreciate your candor. We are simply in a very hard place right now.

Why is this conversation still going on? The election is over. Coulda-woulda-shoulda gets us nowhere. All of the energy going into this meaningless back-and-forth could be invested in this country that everybody says they're so devoted to. If you think America needs fixing, you're ultimately responsible. Stop whining and stomping your feet; turn off your computer and go DO something for somebody else. There are many needs other than yours needing to be met.

DUH!! Did you not notice the ads on the page? It's all about profit. You know, the capitalist way. Funny since the socialist side seems to be the target audience.

Tammy Osier, (the Bankruptcy Trustee?): You claim the people didn't choose business people for President because they didn't want to try something new. Excuse me? Remember Herbert Hoover and George W. Bush? How can you possibly compare Ross Perot to Mitt Romney or Herman Cain? Perot was an IBM salesman who built a huge multi billion dollar successful company, EDS. Mitt Romney never built anything. He invested other people's money, first in venture capital startups, but then, when that strategy did not bring him back a high enough return, he found corporations with either lots of cash, or the ability to borrow it, and redirected that cash to his investors, while charging huge management fees. His "biggest success", Staples, had TWENTY-FIVE (25) stores, all in the Boston area, when he ended his involvement. As for Herman Cain, he was a regional manager for Burger King, and ran Godfathers for Pillsbury after they acquired it as part of another acquisition, and with Pillsbury's resources turned around for a short period the pizza firm, but Pillsbury wanted to dump it (wonder why if Herman did such a good job) and a group with Cain as the minority front man bought it. The fortunes of Godfathers soon declined. As far as 9-9-9, why not 6-6-6, oops that is the work of the devil. Cain's plan did not add up but was rather just a catchy slogan and to call all those women he allegedly harassed, all liars or creations of the liberal left media is nothing but self delusion.
