Bridge Clubs Donate to Needy
Members of Atlanta's oldest duplicate bridge group hold a fundraiser for two local charities.
At this time of the year many senior citizens are often focused on giving to family, friends, and others. Members of Atlanta's bridge community are also focused on giving to the less fortunate among us.
The historic University Bridge Club (UBC), the oldest duplicate bridge organization in Atlanta, held its annual Christmas party at the Adamsville Recreation Center on Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. on Dec. 14.
The party and game were given to benefit Hosea Feed the Hungry and the Atlanta Day Shelter for Women and Children.
More than 75 bridge players attended the event. Attendees brought non-perishable food items for "Hosea Feed the Hungry" and raised $250.00 for that organization.
Several dozen gifts of new socks and hosiery for women and children were also donated to the "Atlanta Day Shelter for Women & Children." (UBC held a benefit game this past summer and raised funds to help Morris Brown College erase its debt).
Others wishing to make contributions to Hosea Feed the Hungry may send donations to P.O. Box 4672, Atlanta, Ga. 30302. The telephone number is 404-755-3353.
Those wishing to donate to the Atlanta Day Shelter for Women & Children, can do so at 655 Ethel Street, N.W.; 404-876-2894.
The University Bridge Club meets weekly at the Quality Living Services senior facility on Danforth Rd.

When my husband and I planned for an early retirement we were both in our 50's. Not only were we retiring, but we were moving to Nashville, TN. Since we resigned from our jobs, we knew we would have to buy health insurance and dental insurance in Tennessee. We purchased a PPO family plan, for just my husband and me, through "Penny Medical" . We paid for the family plan ourselves, initially, the cost was a little less than $400 a month for both of us. Our co-pay was very reasonable at $25 each per office visit.

Thank you Dee for keeping the Community up todate on the many worthwhile activities and contributions made by our seven Duplicate Bridge Clubs and their members. We invite bridge players to join us for games and bridge classes through out the year. Keep the articles coming.

Thanks Shirley. Shirley's husband will teach a class for beginners starting in 2012....for all age groups! These are usually evening classes for working people and students. There is also an ongoing class at QLS each Friday morning. Those people who are interested should give it a try!! Bridge is competitive, but it's fun and it keeps your mind engaged.
