Kwanza Fisher, a Cascade Patch correspondent and southwest Atlanta native, is one of three winners of a 100 Urban Entrepreneurs and Operation Hope grant of $10,000 to establish or develop an entrepreneurial venture.

Last Friday, Fisher and a half dozen other finalists presented one-minute pitches to Magnus Greaves, co-founder of 100 Urban Entrepreneurs, at the White House Urban Entrepreneurship Forum here in Atlanta. The other two winners are Lawrence Watkins and Brittany Earls.

Fisher won the funding for Neighborhood Mathematica, a math education initiative that she founded after graduating from Wellesley College in 2009 with a degree in East Asian Studies.

The initiative recruits and trains volunteer math coaches to drill elementary and middle school students in math concepts and then compete in regional contests.
