EMC2 Kicks off 6-Week "Eyes on the Prize" Screening and Atlanta Black History Celebration

Events scheduled through Feb. 12 for panel discussions featuring Atlanta civil rights foot soldiers and leaders of America's 1960s-era civil rights movement.

Embracing Mays Community and Cluster Schools (EMC2) will kick-off a six-week screening of the classic documentary "Eyes on the Prize: America's Civil Rights Years" and panel discussion at 3 p.m. Sun., Jan. 22, at Mays High School.

According to EMC2 coordinators, Sunday's event will begin with a student oratory presentation followed by a one-hour screening of a segment of the documentary. After a short break with refreshments, a panel of civil rights foot soldiers and leaders will talk about their memories of the movement.

Confirmed panelists for the Jan. 22 event include: Cascade Heights' resident Dr. James Densler, M.D., the nation's first African-American pediatric surgeon; Mr. Jim Harmon and Dr. Lewin Manly, M.D. Retired educator and Young Middle School Principal Thomas Kenner will moderate the panel discussion.
