Fallen APD Senior Officer Buried in Mableton
Fallen APD Senior Officer Gail Thomas was laid to rest in Mableton today in front of a crowd of hundreds.
It was a beautiful day to say goodbye to who many, many people agree was a beautiful person.
Atlanta Police Department Senior Officer Gail Thomas was buried in Mableton's Mount Harmony Memorial Cemetery today after a memorial service at Elizabeth Baptist Church in Atlanta. Thomas was killed Tuesday when she was struck by an alleged drunk driver, while assisting another officer.
"It's just tragic," says Officer Michael Bowman, Cobb County Information Officer. "To date, 14 police officers have already been killed nationwide and if the trend continues, that will be a big number by year's end."
The funeral procession was part of an enormous cavalcade, which included law enforcement officers from all over Metropolitan Atlanta.
"It's just sad," said Homeland Security Officer Aaron Jacobs, who attended the burial.
Mayor Kasim Reed was one of nearly 500 people and of several City of Atlanta officials on hand for the memorial.
