UPDATE: Six Seeking Sherrer El's Former Seat

Qualifying ended on Friday

11Alive is reporting that four more candidates qualified for the District 2 Atlanta public school board seat, making the total number of persons running for the vacant seat at six. 

Earlier this week, reported that Michael Jeter and Byron Amos officially filed for the race on Wednesday, August 3, the first day of qualifying.

A third candidate, Dwanda Farmer, also filed on Wednesday.

Before Friday at 4:30 pm, the last day of qualifying, Angela Brown, Kwabena "Chubby" Nkromo and Donald Walker also entered the race.

The six candidates are seeking the seat previously held by Khaatim Sherrer El, who also served as school board chairman before he resigned on July 11 amidst one of the nation's largest incidents of academic fraud in history, the Atlanta public school system cheating scandal.

11Alive said Brown is a West End youth advocate who is seeking her first public office; Farmer has run unsuccessfully for Atlanta City Council three times; and Nkromo has served as an NPU chair in West End for the past two years; and Walker is a psychology professor at Devry University.
