There's a lot to see and do in southwest and metro Atlanta this weekend. So that you can plan early, we've pulled together a few highlights:
When/Where: 2 p.m., Saturday at the Camp Creek Marketplace Barnes & Noble, 3685 Market Place Blvd, East Point, GA 30344.
Why go: Youth can enjoy activities like storytelling, dance, fashion, face painting, and music. The book fair features performances by Atlanta Ballet, B.E.S.T. Academy Middle School, Youth Hip Hop Crew, Just Kids Clothing Line and more. Sponsored by Pas de Groove Foundation and Eagle’s Landing Dance Center.
When/Where: Register at the Brookhaven Big Peach Running Company by 8 p.m. Thursday or by 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning at Shamrock Middle School, 3100 Mount Olive Drive, Decatur, Georgia 30033. The One-Mile Fun Run begins at Shamrock Middle at 7:45 a.m. The 10k race is considered one of the fastest Peachtree Road Race qualifiers in the metro area.
Why Go: While the main event is actually the 10k which begins at Tucker High School and ends at Shamrock Middle, the whole family can support a great cause and have fun exercising together by participating in this One-Mile Fun Run.
Cost: One-Mile Fun Run is $15.00 (tax deductible) and 1ok is $25.00/$35.00 race day.
When/Where: Saturday from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at the Fernbank Science Center.
Why Go: Build a toothpick bridge (anyone can enter) and then bring it to this event to be tested (until ultimately broken). If you or your children don’t have time to build a bridge come anyway - and start thinking of how you will construct your bridge for next year. Make sure to make time to see the Fernbank Science Center while you visit.
Cost: Free. No pre-registration required.
