House Hunt: Calling All Potential Urban Gardeners

Find a home with backyard space to test your gardening skills!

A couple looking to buy a home, both Cascade Patch readers, recently contacted me to find a property and one of their priorities was to have space for a garden.

Their request ignited my thoughts on the growing interest in urban gardening.

The current trend toward healthy eating has prompted many homeowners to start their own gardens. It is amazing how this phenomenon to get back to basics has really caught on.

So that the garden does not take up all of the yard space, a managable backyard space is the ideal setting for an urban garden.  The Internet is flooded with articles on the subject, however,  www.urbangardeninghelp.com is a particularly  comprehensive site.

It includes start up help, gardening tips and valuable resources.

Take a look at today’s featured homes for sale in Cascade with adequate space in the backyard for a fine urban garden. Locate the perfect home to start your urban garden today!

Tell us about your memories of your grandmother's garden when you were growing up? Won't it be nice to have a replica in your own yard?!

My best memory is of a pecan tree in the backyard. It's still there, but doesn't produce anymore. Oh and shelling peas...wasn't a fun time then, but looking back it was a great experience.

My grandmother had lots of goodies in her gardens!Melons, corn, among them and my favorite- tomatoes. There is nothing like a fully ripened tomato right off the vine with a dash of salt and eaten like an apple. She also had blackberry vines and a huge fig tree.We didn't know how blessed we were to have that naturally grown fruit and vegetables. We shelled peas too!
