Man Shot and Killed by Police at West End Mall

9:00 p.m. Wednesday night an APD officer shot and killed a suspect at West End Mall

A suspect was shot and killed by an Atlanta Police Department officer on Wednesday night at West End Mall in Southwest Atlanta.

(Note: This happened just hours after we left the mall and covered the Free HIV Testing Event that was such a nice event and attended by 200 or more people.)

According to WSB-TV, a witness told them that he, "just saw the truck at the front, and then the police pulled in, I think maybe three, and they jumped out and yelled, 'Freeze,' and a little after that, I heard the shots and people started running towards us,".

The man was shot in his SUV, and another suspect was arrested.

WSB also talked to a woman that said she was with the suspect just before the shooting occurred and that they were basically minding their own business and talking in the West End Mall parking lot. More from the witness is in WSB's reporting, and she may end up being key to what happened.

We contacted the APD and they would only release this statement:

Due to the number of officers involved, the size and complexity of the crime scene and the fact that it resulted in a fatality we have asked for the GBI to assist to ensure an objective and thorough investigation.

Further information will have to come from them.

I THINK IT IS A SHAME THAT SO MANY KILLINGS INVOLVING POLICE OFFICERS OCCURS. THE GUY WAS SCARED BECAUSE HE HAD WARRANTS. THIS WAS NOT THE REASON TO SHOOT AND KILL HIM. POLICE SOMETIMES DONOT REALIZE THEY ARE HUMANS TO.BLOOD CAN BE ON THEIR HANDS.

Thit is definitely a tragedy; however, I do not want a fugitive living in my neighborhood. Even though I do not know the full story, if he had warrants out for his arrest then the RIGHT thing to do would be to turn himself in. He would have never been put in that situation, nor would the police have been in that situation.

Often times in the event of tragedy as a result of a disregard for the law tends to lead a misdirected attention towards the end result. This is not being said to negate the severity of the conclusion of the sequence of events but more so to acknowledge the greater significant element which is the CAUSE. This individual was making efforts to evade the police due to his knowledge of being a fugitive. Not just in a physics lab but in the real world we must be able to acknowledge true CAUSE AND EFFECT

HE WAS WANTED FOR AN NONE VIOLET CRIME also unarmed an helpless; they found no weapons at all. they only found shell caseing of the police officers who shot him and they asked him to get out and so he did unwillingly'' but he did. and thats when the racist barbaric europeans shot him over a incadent that was exposed to the officers that happen in calhones past for defending himself against crooked currupt henchmen. so they falsely implied that he was heavenly armed and clearly he wasnt. Also the blood was on the ground and not in the truck. he was also shot over ten times ''an unarmed man'' but thats the CHRISTIAN WAY an the CHRISTIAN THING to DO... thats not Godly. but but ITs DEFINNETLY THE CHRISTIAN WAY'' then they try to paint the story by letting a brown man of his own race tell the media that he heard shouts an then he said there was an shootout so he really didnt see anything; he only heard? and you cant hear the difference between a shootout? an multiple officers shooting at one man?also there were plenty of stories told but they only showed the one black man story that was so far off from what really happend but the other stories were more detailed an they didnt reveal those stories. decievers for the evil I thought the war was oversea but it is right here in the u.s. against the original black man of this earth. and they are patting the officers on the back saying good job on the nigger... TOO MUCH ATHORITY. they are supposed to protect and correct not neglect..

There are many unknown facts surrounding this incident which prevents the ability to form a complete thought pertaining to this tragedy. The known facts presented are that he was in fact a fugitive of JUSTICE and he was EVADING prosecution. So I wonder if a reaction is thought of as being a response to a stimulus what exactly was the stimulus in this scenario. The stimulus was probably his continuous efforts to evade prosecution, just a thought produced by the known facts only. An "untold" story is just that unheard, undocumented, unrevealed, unvalued etc. and will remain that way until heard. Perception can only be valued absent fact but still maintains the equivalent value of a fictional book. Cause and effect is real! (Dealing with the known)

Yes I agree with everything siad, but let's keep it simple. Nothing would have happened if he would have turned himself in for the NON-VIOLENT CRIME. Even if the police are in the wrong here, there probably would not have not have been an incident if he did that right thing at first. As a black man, I believe I have been a target of racial profiling. However, the police have helped me more times than not. All of this is a moot point, but the fact sill remains, if he would have turned himself in, then the whole thing would have been avoided. I was arrested for a non-violent crime. I took my sentence from the judge paid my dues and now I am living pretty well if I must say so myself. I still thik it is a tragedy, but at the same time we have to learn to man up and pay for our petty crimes so that they do not escalate into something more serious. Honestly, do you really think that cops want to shoot people?

I knew this brother and I am not convinced that this should be justified by law. Police have a right to protect themselves but were they in any danger? Media in many cases makes these situations worse. What does it take to disarm a man without fatally wounding him or is that even in protocol? I am not a fan of failed public service. In saying that, I am a fan fan of justice for all. every since Rodney King the police are not in the business of leaving witnesses alive..
