NPUs Working for Southwest Atlanta

NPU-I is one of 45 Neighborhood Planning Units designed to address needs of local residents.

Last week I stopped by the monthly meeting of Neighborhood Planning Unit I at the Adamsville Recreation Center to learn more about the City of Atlanta's local community leadership boards.

What I found was what appeard to be a well-organized, nine-member board with presentations on everything from the latest charter school news to planning for National Night Out, a police and community partnership program, on Aug. 2, 2011.

It doesn't take much to get involved in an NPU; the first step is to just come out to a meeting.

NPU-I meets every third Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Adamsville center.

The current NPU-I team includes:

Wayne Grady, Chairman

Sharyl Chatman, Vice Chair

Saundi Wilson, Secretary

Tshaka Warren, Sr. Planner, City of Atlanta

Andy Fellers, License Review Chair

Jennifer Freeman, Education Chair

Connie Mabry, Public Safety Chair

Mary Palmer, Transportation Chair

Louversia Wiggins, Zoning Chair
