President Obama Endorses Rep. John Lewis for Re-election
Today, President Obama made it official that he supports John Lewis in his upcoming election
Congressman John Lewis has just received Pres. Obama's endorsement is his race against newcomer Michael Johnson, for the re-drawn 5th District.
“Whether it was improving educational opportunity for children, expanding access to quality, affordable healthcare, or helping Georgia families struggling to make ends meet, the 5th district has been able to count on John Lewis,” said President Barack Obama.
“Congressman John Lewis is a true American hero, and he has been dedicated to fighting for equality throughout his life. That is why I need him back in Congress to continue the fight with me for the 5th congressional district and for our nation. I need you to cast your vote for Congressman John Lewis in the July primary and again in November."
Congressman Lewis replied to the endorsement with gratitude.
“I want to thank President Obama for his endorsement, and I look forward to going back to Washington to work with him and to fight for the people of the 5th Congressional District,” said Congressman John Lewis. “A few years ago, I gave a little blood on that bridge in Selma. I was beaten and left bloody but I never gave up, I never gave in. As a community, we must have that same spirit. We must continue to stand up for equality, for women’s rights, and for our environment. We must protect our seniors and educate our children. There are people who want to take us back, but we can’t go back.”
Congressman Lewis is the ranking member of the Ways & Means Subcommittee on Oversight, and member of the Subcommittee on Human Resources.
