Senate and House Representatives to Attend Upcoming Cliftondale Town Hall Meeting
Hear from the Legislative Members of the Georgia General Assembly that are elected to represent Cliftondale and South Fulton County
Cliftondale Community Club is a non-political, civic organization formed to enrich and encourage development of the Cliftondale Community through non-profit service. They have invited all of our local elected officials to a Town Hall Meeting on February 23, 2013, 10:00 AM at the Cliftondale Art Center Auditorium, 4645 Butner Road.
Invited guests include:
- Senator-Donzella James,
- Senator-Horicena Tate,
- House Representative-Roger Bruce,
- House Representative-Sharon-Beasley Teague,
- House Representative-LaDawn Jones
- House Representative Virgil Fludd
Some of the longstanding issues will be discussed including the future of South Fulton County and how it will evolve, and also community issues with Hartsfield-Jackson airport and the Camp Creek business district.
The latest issue that is sure to be discussed are House Bills 170 and 171. House Bill 171, in particular, if passed will force Commissioner Bill Edwards and Commissioner Emma Darnell to fight for the same seat, and gives residents less representation. In a video on Cascade Patch, Emma Darnell calls House Bill 171, the "Re-Segregation Bill". She urges community members to come to the public hearing and sign petitions letting the Republican controlled assembly know that "the People are against these bills."
Another Cliftondale Community meeting will be held on March 11th in which District 7, Fulton County Commissioner, William "Bill" Edwards will discuss the State of the County.
