SW Atlanta Community Disturbed that Fire Station Closed with No Warning
Fire Station 14 at Lee Street and Avon temporarily closed.
At the most recent NPU-T meeting the Fire Department representative seemed to "break the news" to local residents that Fire Station 14 was temporarily closed, and its truck would be operating out of Station 17 for the meantime.
"As you may have heard in the news, Station 14 is temporarily closed," the representative said.
He was referring to a WSB-TV report that came out a few days ago that featured 2 community members that said they were disturbed that there was no communication before the closure. According to the report, printed signs showed up on the door one day and said they were temporarily closed.
At the NPU-T meeting residents and even the Chair were surprised by the closure, which lends to the idea that the Atlanta Fire Department did not do a good job notifying the public about the changes.
Granted the changes should not affect service and should only take a week, according to WSB-TV, but maybe response times will be affected and in cases of emergencies the public should know that they can't stop at Station 14 for help because it will be vacant.
So for now, Fire Station 14 in Southwest Atlanta is indeed closed and will remain so until they complete some renovations. We will update you when they reopen.
If you have any comments on this matter or if you have been directly affected by this station's closing, please let us know!
