Joseph Smith, SW Atlanta Morrow Lane Murder Suspect, Arrested

SWAT responded to a hostage situation on Sunday afternoon in Southwest Atlanta, and arrested Joseph Smith and charged him with 2 counts of murder along with aggravated rape and kidnapping.

UPDATE (9/24): Joseph Smith will be in court today to hear the formal charges against him.  He is suspected in killing his new wife, Shatikey Griffin, 34, and her daughter Demiya Griffin, 12, who were both found deceased in the home on Morrow Lane.  Demiya Griffin was a KIPPS WAYS Academy student, and the school plans to hold a candlelight vigil on Monday evening at 6pm for their beloved student. (across from Ashby MARTA station)  Police officers also plan to charge Smith for the murder of Loveitt Wallace's, 36, at Wellesley Inn in East Point that occurred earlier Sunday morning.

According to a CBS Atlanta report, the suspect called his baby's mother shortly after the murders and said "he messed up," and wanted to see his daughter before he went to jail.

Motives for the killings are still unknown.

(Sunday, September 23rd) Atlanta Police are continuing to investigate a triple murder in Southwest Atlanta on Sunday morning.  The 32-year-old suspect, Joseph Smith, was arrested at 593 Morrow Lane where officers also found two dead victims.

According to CBS Atlanta, the Atlanta Police say that this suspect is connected to a body found earlier in the day in an East Point Motel.  East Point investigators are working with the Atlanta Police Department on the investigation.

Public Affairs Officer K. Y. Jones:
Shortly before 9:00 this morning, the Atlanta Police Department received a call stating an individual was inside a dwelling on Morrow Lane and that he had possibly killed multiple people. SWAT and the Hostage Negotiation Team was notified and responded to the scene. Shortly thereafter a subject was taken into custody without incident. Homicide arrived on scene and found two victims deceased at the location. We believe this incident is related to a homicide in East Point. The Atlanta PD and East Point PD are working the investigation jointly.

I knew Shatikey from work. May her family be engulfed with love since losing her and her daughter...and the other victim's family as well.

Well at least you had the pleasure of knowing such a beautiful spirit. No one deserved to die especially not by the hands of another.

At the end of the day only God can judge. I don't know what this brother was thinking about when he committed such a cruel and gruesome act. I lift him up in prayer first and I also lift up the family of the deceased. May God be with each and every indiviual caught u p in this senseless act.
