UPDATE: Burned Body Found in Car Identified

Medical Examiner has been able to identify the badly burned body found in SW Atlanta.

 

UPDATE (July 21 5:26 p.m.) The Atlanta Journal Constitution is reporting that the body found in a burning car on Westmont Road is, in fact, that of Gregory Vernon Harris of Covington.

The body that was found in a burning car on Westmont Road in SW Atlanta has been identified by the Medical Examiner's office.  The most that is being said at this time, is that the body is that of a man.

Police have said that the car was registered to a missing Covington man, "Gregory Vernon Harris, who was reported missing Friday evening in Newton County, Atlanta Police homicide unit commander Lt. Paul Guerrucci told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution."

According to information obtained by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution from the Newton County Sheriff's Office, Harris, 49, was reported missing by his sister Friday evening around 8 p.m., and has been the subject of an ongoing investigation.

The Atlanta Police Department have not confirmed the body to be that of Mr. Harris as the complete investigation continues.
