Video: Highlights of Rep. Pat Gardner Press Conference; Denies 'Gay-Baiting' for House District 57
Rep. Pat Gardner visited Paschal's Restaurant to hold her first press luncheon on the campaign trail.
Rep. Pat Gardner is a democrat pitted against another fellow democrat in a race for the Georgia House Representative seat for District 57. District 57 was redistricted by House Republicans, so that fellow incumbent Democrats would have to challenge each-other for a single seat.
Rep. Gardner held her scheduled press luncheon on Tuesday afternoon just hours after her opponent Rep. Rashad Taylor called a press conference to ask Pat Gardner to "denounce", what he called "anti-gay" flyers that were supposedly distributed to certain Southwest Atlanta neighborhoods.
Rep. Gardner acknowledged the other campaign by responding to a GA Voice reporter's question about the issue. She said, "I have had support from the gay community from the first day I ran...I think it is a bit of a stretch to say that I am the one doing the gay-baiting." Rep. Gardner went on to say that she, "would never be a part of that. (talking about the flyer)"
Rep. Pat Gardner used most of her time at the press conference to talk about what makes her a good candidate, and what issues are most important to her such as fixing MARTA and delivering affordable healthcare.
Both candidates will have their chance to talk directly to Cascade Patch readers in the days ahead. In the weeks ahead we will also hold an Online Forum with candidates, so that you can ask questions directly to the candidate.

The time of throwing “homophobic rocks” and hiding one's hand has to stop! Less than six months ago Pat Garden's political team put out the same vicious and foul mailers in the APS School Board race under the leadership of “THE right REVEREND” Mitiz Bickers, the formed APS school board president that resigned and who now works at city hall as a close confidant of Mayor Reed.
Pat Gardner claiming she’s “gay friendly” is like a Jewish person hiring a member of Adolf Hitler’s cabinet to run their campaign and freely calling the opponent a “KIKE.” I would be appalled if I was a member of the LGBTQI community to let Pat Gardner think she is a friend.
But hey, she is a 73 year old white woman who lives in Morningside so I guess all her black maids over the year has given her the experience to deal with her new black maids—Mitiz Bickers, Dwanda Farmer, and Erica Pines. And since our side of town is so poor, she can hirer every black person to work in her campaign like she’s one of us. This would truly be laughable…if it were not so true!

@ Kelvin YOU don't know jack about me! I am no maid and for the record it's "Dr." Farmer to you!!!! Don't get it twisted I don't work for Gardner and you have never scene me work on a campaign with those you are attempting to associate me with in your remarks. The REAL FACT of the matter is there are legitimate questions around rather or not Mr. Taylor even lives in the district. Quite frankly you have no reason to accuse Rev. Bickers, Ms. Pines, ME or anyone else with no evidence about a flyer that more likely than not the Taylor campaign created themselves. NO ONE has seen it any where except the copy Taylor gave the media!!! Don't try to defame me! There is no gay baiting or anti-gay campaign aganist Mr. Taylor and this is an attempt to change the storyline and take the focus off his residency. I care less about WHO Mr. Taylor sleeps with and more about WHERE Mr. Taylor sleeps at night. He's a 31 year old grown ass man and he should have more than a rented room in a SHACK that Angela Brown owns and code enforcement ought to make her clean up!!!! Taylor has used the same tactics he is accusing Bickers of.... take a look at HIS record! Taylor worked on the greatest race baiting campaign in Atlanta history; has turned candidates black faced on flyers, paints other democrats as Republicans and his vicious leadership in the some races has left candidate's fleeing the political scene forever. Before you say ANYthing else about ME, get back on your TURNIP TRUCK and....

Where did "Dr." Farmer get her degree? Her comments look like the work of a 5th grader in Atlanta Public School.

Actually, I do have a Doctorate of Philosophy as well as a Juris Doctorate -- since you asked. However, her degree, political career and reputation in the community is just as defunct, embarrassing and null and void as your radio career. You both wanna-be political pundits, should do like the rest of us and get a job, life and social calendar.
Furthermore, I'm amazed at how half-ass Black folk in Atlanta are, especially in this un-influential Georgia House of Representatives race. A Black mayor in a Black city using his influence to support a white candidate in a Black community over a Black candidate that helped him become mayor. Its sickening. I'm sure if the roll were to be called, Pat Gardner was in the Mary Norwood camp, while Rashad Taylor was making Kasim Reed mayor. I guess Rashad ought ask the question, why.
However, this conversation is over. I've said my piece.

now with all your degrees and your statement about "un-influential" race. would it not make sense to elect the white woman from morningside hgts over the black dem. she can at least hob nob with the repubs who live next to her to get something done for her community. seems to me that every dem esp. black dem has absolutely NO power at all in Georgia. so if black people want to get anything done they should look at white northsiders that at least come from where the other white pols come from. maybe? its worth a shot. . BTW< who the f...k are you to tell anyone about their careers or job status?

He's a pompus idiot without a clue! Harriett Tubman would have :"freed more slaves if only they had known...." Let him keep his 9 to 5 and do what they say do. I get paid to do what I WANT TO DO and I do it when I want to so whose on top? I haven't needed a job in a decade and I work everyday and my work is meaningful. Let me say this my WORK and REPUTATION in the community is that I increased the empowerment zone down payment assistance from $8,000 to $15,000 way back in 2000. Over the past ten years I've won more than $40M in grants for my clients. At the same time, I've delivered more than 500 units of affordable housing in low-income communities. I've created two local housing counseling agencies, certified them through HUD, won grants and helped over 1,000 familes get home buyer education and build a path towards homeownership. I linked the first Community Development Corporation with private developers to attract LIHTC to rebuild housing and link the same in a HOPE VI project. I have distrubuted more than $25 BILLION in NMTC and CDFI funds across the nation. Dr. Henderson, WHAT exactly is your record of service? Lying, cheating and stealing from clients and arguing in court for MONEY? Who the heck are you and what have you ever done that gives you the authority to suggest I get a freaking "job, life and social calendar." You wish you were invited to the places I choose not to go..... :-) Keep drinking the Kool-Aid bruh.... How's that working for you?

I said I wouldn't comment further, however, I must respond.
Shelley, you are living an illusion, a fantasy and a world of make believe if you really think a privileged white woman from Morningside really gives a hoot about "colored" folk in the hood -- West End, Mechanicsville, Pittsburg or even Cascade. That theory has worked so well in the past, lets call the roll -- Nan Orrock transformed her district, so did Kathy Ashe, Stephanie Stuckey-Benefield and Margaret Kasier. White folk always hob nob with other white folk to protect the interest of Black folk in socially disenfranchised communities around Atlanta and the world -- what a joke. White folk are only concerned about their community and their interest. If you really think your theory benefits the Black community, you are more smooth-brained than I originally thought.

ashe and kaiser are very popular with AAs in their communities. BUT lets look at the flip side of what you said earlier DR LAWYER, "reed turned his support to the white woman" so obviously the black pols are not much better. Lets look at fort, brooks, ct martin, those communities are flourishing under their stellar leadership. How about the great john lewis, 5th district got plenty of stimulus money didn;t it? How about that franklin mayor who shuttled half the black community into clayton county. and gave us beverly hall? need i go on.? DR? i hope you did not spend too much on those degrees, seems you may want a refund.

Dwanda, are you serious? You're kidding me, right? You've done all of that for the community and what did you get from the deal -- a church lady hat, a suit from the West End Mall, a set of cooking utensils and a lifetime stock of bubblicious? If you've done all that you say you have, you should be nominated as a CNN Hero. If you have really given so much to the community, you should have handily won every election you qualified for. In fact, you should run for mayor or congress, seems like you're bringing more money into the community than Members of Congress. However, last I recall, you were so busy being "christian-like" and bashing other candidates in the street, you completely forgot to run your own campaign. Seems like you're still holding that Angela Brown - Dwanda Farmer grudge. Let it go, move on, learn from your mistakes and gracefully re-enter into society.
Shelley, I once saw a poster that said, "its not smart to argue with a fool, because listeners can't tell which is which." So, I'll let you have this round. Even when Fort, Brooks, Martin, Lewis and Obama return to their elected capacities, I'll still say you won. Even when all three of your listeners log into your radio show, I'll still say you won.
By the way, Dwanda, I just finished off a nice tall glass of kool-aid -- tasty.

Dr. Henderson YOU are absolutely RIGHT!!! I should be nominated for a CNN hero's award and I should have won hands down each election I entered, because my record is what it is and it speaks for itself!!!! Thank you for recognizing what I have accomplished for low income communities in Atlanta! It does not reflect negatively on me that voters are so used to shoddy politicians that they feel more comfortable with a do nothing than someone of integrity with a record like mine. That's exactly why I can wake up the day after election day having lost still steadfast in who I AM!
