Polls have closed in metro Atlanta, as voters cast their ballots today in the Atlanta Public Schools' 2nd district runoff.
Angela Brown, a community organizer and Historic West End resident, and Byron Amos, another community organizer and CEO of Capacity Builders in Vine City, were seeking the seat formerly held by Khaatim Sherrer El.
In November elections, Brown finished in the lead in a field of five candidates with 38 percent of the vote.
A graduate of Washington High School who also has worked in the hip-hop music industry, Amos came in second with 24 percent.
Sherrer El, who also served as school board chairman before he resigned on July 11 amidst one of the nation's largest incidents of academic fraud in history, the Atlanta public school system cheating scandal.
