Are We Eating The Right Foods?

Let's talk about food and sickle cell.  I recently made a decision to start shopping for organic foods.  When we hear "organic" we think expensive and that is right, but realize that organic stores also have specials and deals like regular grocery stores, you have to buy when those deals are available.  We have to understand that processed foods are not healthy for anyone, even people that doesn't have SS disease, these foods have no nutritional value and putting processed foods in my son's system was damaging his cells and his entire system.  They need a balanced and healthy diet in order to maintain normal body functions.

Something important to consider: All body cells need food to keep them healthy and the type of foods eaten will determine how well the body tissues are able to work properly in order to prevent illness or worsening chronic illness.  People with SS needs lean meats, fish, fruits, vegetables and whole grains and because they are at greater risk of getting infections, they need food that has nutritional value.
