David Jernigan, the Executive Director of Kipp Schools in Atlanta led a historic groundbreaking on Tuesday morning in SW Atlanta.  He announced the opening of KIPP's first elementary school and was proud that it will be built next to the site of the current KIPP Strive Middle school in SW Atlanta.

Mini’imah Shaheed, Founding Principal of KIPP Strive Primary School, was excited that she will have Kindergarten students and other younger children learning within her classrooms in the coming months.  She envisions that being able to teach kids at even younger ages will make KIPP's mission of creating college ready students even easier and more successful.

There is a large building that will be built in the next year adjacent to the KIPP Strive Middle School, but in the meantime classes for elementary students will start in late August within th existing Strive building.

We're so excited that our oldest son will be a KIPPster in the Fall. Planting the seed early about going to college is critical and KIPP understands that it's imperative to teach our young children early about the importance of an education.

I attended the ground breaking and was extremely excited about the opportunities that were not available to my current Kippsters. I wish they had that same foundation. Now we need a Kipp Strive High School! I would love for my daughter Lyric to stay at Strive through the 12th grade. We have multiple middle schools so why remain limited to one high school? Let’s push for a Kipp Strive High school for the founding class to continue to!
