Ben Hill United Methodist Church under the leadership of Rev. Richard D. Winn, Sr. Pastor invites the public to the Veterans Ministry progam during Sunday, November 11 service.  African Americans Serving In the Military: When In Charge will feature Brigadeier General (Ret) Robert Stephens as speaker at the 7:45 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. services.

Robert L. ‘’Steve” Stephens, Jr. a native of Welch, WV. and graduated with a degree in Education at West Virginia State University (WVSU) and holds a Masters in Education from Alfred University. In 1962  he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant of Infantry with the 101st Airborne Division. He served in the Army for more than 30 years.  General Stephens led the Army’s first Joint Task Force to find and destroy drug laboratories in South America.  He also commanded the Joint United States Military Advisory Group in Bangkok, Thailand and was Director of the Joint Armed Forces Inaugural Committee that directed all of the ceremonial activities in the first inauguration of President Bill Clinton.  General Stephens retired from the US Army in June 1993, and was appointed Director of Personnel for the State of West Virginia. In 1997 he as appointment Deputy Commissioner of the Georgia Merit System of Personnel Management.  He recently served as Vice President for External Relations and the Executive Assistant to the President, at Clayton State University.  

On Wednesday, November 7 from 3-8 p.m. the Veterans Ministy Blood Drive will be held at the church. Those who donate blood or platelets between October 21 and December 31, 2012 will be automatically be entered to win a $1,000 Gift Card. To schedule an appointment to give blood access the website at www.redcrossblood.org and enter sponsor code:benhill. All participants receive a free gift.

Special efforts are being made to assist the Valaria Fenderson Foundation locate marrow donors to find a match for the 11 year old Sickle Cell Anemia patient who needs a bone marrow transplant.
