Cascade Heights Walmart Now Open and serving Southwest Atlanta Shoppers

The new Walmart provides approximately 300 jobs

Atlanta’s newest Walmart opened today in the Cascade Heights neighborhood Wednesday, Oct. 23, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m.

The new store at 1105 Research Center Drive is conveniently located just south of Benjamin Mays High School and is open from 7 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week.

According to Walmart representatives, the store will, "provide Atlanta residents with one-stop shopping convenience for their grocery and general merchandise and pharmacy needs."

The store features general merchandise, including apparel, electronics, toys, sporting goods, and lawn and garden items. It also offers a full line of groceries, including organic and natural selections in addition to local favorites.

The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. This pharmacy opening will actually be a homecoming for pharmacist Deidre Brown, who grew up in the neighborhood and attended Benjamin Mays High School just north of the store. A graduate of Florida A&M University, Brown has been a pharmacist for almost 20 years.

The grand-opening celebration also includes presentations of grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to local community groups including, Benjamin E. Mays High School athletic program and D.M. Therrell High School athletic program.

The new store employs approximately 300 full- and part-time associates and is led by store manager Sitta Kebbay, who was born in Sierra Leone, raised in Philadelphia and came to Georgia to attend college at the University of Georgia, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business. He has been in Georgia ever since, and started with Walmart in 2003 as a sales floor stocker.

“I’m ready to open the doors, get to know the customers and learn how I can change my business to serve them,” Kebbay said. “We welcome everyone to check out their new store and celebrate with us on grand-opening day.”
