Op-Ed from Ceasar Mitchell, City Council President: The End of the Session

Dear Friends,

Yesterday, the Atlanta City Council came together for the last time as a legislative body in an effort to continue making the city of Atlanta the best city in the country. It has been an eventful four years, marked with thoughtful debate, insightful conversation, and significant action.  Together, the City Council tackled many issues that if left untouched could have crippled our city, potentially stalling our inevitable growth.

As we approach the end of another term, I am pleased to say that I am proud of the accomplishments made by this Council. Each member brought a unique skill set that, when joined with the skill sets of fellow members, made the Council a powerful voice for the citizens of the city of Atlanta. The city has been made stronger by the men and women who spent the past four years fighting for its sustainability and growth.

January 2014 will begin a new term for the Atlanta City Council. There will be new faces, fresh conversations and worthwhile debates to be had.  However, amidst the changes one thing will always hold true; as your City Council President I remain committed to ensuring that the Atlanta City Council and I keep the citizens at the heart of everything that we do.  My goal is that during the next four years we build on the successes of the current Council, and in four years we are able to look back and say the city of Atlanta is even stronger than it is today.

    Council President Ceasar C. Mitchell
