Create a Youth Entrepreneurship District! Sign the Petition!

Youth Entrepreneurship has been identified as one of the long-term solutions to the national jobs shortage, the need to educate and prepare youth for a global society, and the need to invigorate our economy.

It happens that Atlanta, which is a rising economy, serves as a prime location to cradle a boom in youth entrepreneurship in the southeastern United States and across the nation. A downtown  youth entrepreneurship district will provide substantial opportunity and space for teen and young adult entrepreneurs, ages 14-25.

The Plan:

We are petitioning the City to raise funds through revenue municipal bonds to allocate one block of Peachtree Street (between Alabama Street to Martin Luther King Jr. Dr.) to the growth of youth entrepreneurs.  We petition the following:

1.       That buildings will be purchased by the City of Atlanta and utilized for commercial activity of youth entrepreneurs.

2.       That a portion of the buildings will be sold or leased to youth nonprofits and for profit organizations.

3.       That youth commerce activities will include the following

a.        Low-rent leases for commercial offices and retail spaces for youth entrepreneurs

b.       Youth entrepreneur flea market set-ups

4.       That there is zero tolerance for violence and/or drug activity. This area will be a violence-free and drug-free zone.

We need your help. Please write a letter with your organization’s letterhead to the Atlanta City Council expressing your support of this initiative. The councilmember for the zoned district is Cleta Winslow. Enclosed you will find a sample letter. Send a copy of your letter to us at youthdistrictATL@gmail.com.
