Dr. Dell Byrd Campaign for 6th District APS School Board Post Gains Momentum!

Along with other powerful organizations and prominent citizens, The Atlanta Federation of Teachers has thrown its support behind Dell Byrd for the 6th District position on Atlanta’s School Board.  The candidate holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Georgia State University, MA in Education, Central Michigan University and an Ed.D. In Curriculum Studies, Georgia Southern University.

In identifying its selection for school board membership the AFT took into account a record of community involvement as well as Byrd’s hands-on experience as an educator in the classroom as well as in an administrative capacity.  Byrd has won tremendous favor among parents of school-age children and has aggressively canvassed the district listening to their concerns and expectancies from a school board member.

Leading into the 2012 presidential election, Bryd became involved in one of Atlanta’s most successful endeavors to engage citizens in the voting process.  Through ATLANTA VOTERS UNITED, she joined her husband, Richard Byrd, a prominent community leader and Morehouse graduate in the fulfilling process of garnering thousands of newly registered voters who eventually cast votes during the election season.  She is also a former educator within the Fulton County School system. Byrd, a former APS parent, has launched a powerful theme of CARE--Commitment, Attention, Responsibility and Enthusiasm.  She and her husband are both members of St. Paul AME Church.
