South Fulton Business Coalition partners with East Point Councilman, Fulton GOP for MLK community cleanups

For Immediate Release

SOUTH FULTON-The South Fulton Business Coalition, East Point Councilman Alexander Gothard and Fulton County Republican Party are taking on this weekend by cleaning up portions of South Fulton in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The SFBC’s initiative, ‘So Fresh, So Clean, So Green’ focuses on keeping the business and commercial corridors of South Fulton litter free, removal of illegal signage, keeping MARTA bus stops clean and entrance/exit ramps.

The organization kicked off the event last November in partnership with the Sandtown Community Association and NPU-Q (Midwest Cascade Communities) to clean up the West Cascade corridor in Unincorporated South Fulton.

“We cannot honestly say we want nice things in our community while our business corridors are filled with litter,” Dominique Huff, Executive Director of SFBC said.  “We recognize that many of our local governments had budget reductions that eliminated roadside cleanups.  It’s time for us as community to take ownership of our corridors.”

On Saturday, January 18, the SFBC and Gothard will tackle cleaning up the areas around the Delowe Drive and Stanton Road exits from 8:30am-1:00pm. Volunteers are asked to meet at the Citgo on Stanton Road.

“When I get off at these exits, I am not happy with what I see,” Gothard said. “We need to take pride in keeping our community clean and I am encouraging other councilmembers to participate.”

Gothard has tapped into local resources including community leaders and Keep East Point Beautiful.

Monday, the Fulton County GOP comes to clean up the Red Oak community. In that cleanup, volunteers will tackle Washington Road, Buffington Road, Roosevelt Hwy and Campbell Drive. Volunteers are asked to meet at the Red Oak Plaza at the Certified Security Office located at 3375 Roosevelt Highway Suite G. Cleanup will take place from 8:30am-1:00pm

Other cleanups are scheduled for Fulton Industrial, Old National and West Cascade are forth coming. The SFBC states these are not just one time only efforts but part of an on-going process. To be a volunteer or sponsor, contact director@southfultonbusiness.com or 404-277-5238
