Rev. Dr. Joseph Lowery Book Signing and Sermon

The Rev. Dr. Joseph Lowery will return to the pulpit of Cascade United Methodist Church on Sun., Feb. 13, 2011. The 89-year-old civil rights legend and former senior pastor of the church will deliver the sermon for the 11 a.m. worship service and sign copies of his new book, Singing the Lord’s Song in a Strange Land (Abingdon Press, February 2011).

Rev. Lowery has penned the stories that shaped his life as the dean of the Civil Rights Movement. The former Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) president experiences came full circle on Jan. 20, 2009, when he delivered the benediction for the inauguration of President Barack Obama.  Later that year, he was honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

“Reverend Lowery personifies so much- as a leader, pastor and powerful preacher, father and friend,” says Cascade Senior Pastor Marvin A. Moss.  “We are excited to have him back at Cascade sharing the Good News as only he can.”
