On Tuesday, at 10:00 a.m., Georgia artist Malaika Favorite will re-introduce her “Studies in Black History, 1999” as a part of History and Culture Day at the Darnell Senior Multipurpose Facility.

Introduced by the Fulton County Public Art Commission in 1999 for the opening of the Facility, the collection includes 28 mixed-media paintings reflecting the life stories of the people and places within the surrounding community.

“History and Culture Day” is a part of a week-long celebration of the 12th Anniversary of the Harriett G. Darnell Senior Facility. On Tuesday, Ms. Favorite will also conduct a workshop “Memory Collage: A Keepsake to Give to Others” in coordination with the Department of Arts and Culture. The 12th Anniversary Celebration Ball will be held Friday, December 9, 2011 at 7:00 P.M.

The Harriett G. Darnell Senior Facility, one of four county-operated multipurpose facilities has 3,000 registered participants and provides a variety of social, educational and physical services to 250-300 Fulton County residents each day. Other multipurpose facilities are Dorothy C. Benson, Sandy Springs, HJC Bowden, East Point and Helene S. Mills, Central Fulton/Atlanta. For more information, contact the Harriett G. Winter Book Fair

Come meet the authors, listen to their stories and see what new reads are out there.

There will be both children's and adult titles this year. 

The Southwest Arts Center is a neighborhood facility dedicated to bringing art classes, cultural programs and events to the southwest Atlanta community. The center offers classes in visual arts, film making, dance, music and other disciplines.

The center is operated by the Fulton County Arts Council, which manages five similar centers across the metro area.

St. Paul’s Christmas Concert

Both performances of the annual community-based Christmas concert at St. Paul's Episcopal Church are SOLD OUT, however an adjacent viewing area has been set up and is available on a first come, first served basis where the concerts can be viewed and heard via video screen.

The festive celebration features music by the St. Paul's Episcopal Church choirs: the Men's Chorus, the Women's Chorus, the Handbell Chorus, Voices of Praise, and the Chamber Singers with guest members of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.

The Jewell Jackson McCabe Emerging Leaders Institute (ELI) will host its first public fundraiser on Sunday December 11, 2011 at the Loft at Castleberry Hill in Atlanta. Expressions of Treasured Gifts at Christmas Stage Production

The Zion Hill Baptist Church Youth Ministry will celebrate the birth of Jesus The Christ through the performance of "Expressions of Treasured Gifts at Christmas", an original stage production. Special guests artists will be the Seeds of Faith's Men of Silence Mime Team and the Westlake Concert Band. Dr. Aaron L. Parker is the pastor, Rev. Paul Booth is the Youth Minister.

The public is invited to attend.

This 138-year-old Atlanta church, lead since 1994 by pastor Rev. Dr. Aaron Parker, is deeply involved in the community and offers more than 36 ministries. In addition to a weekly teen Bible study and monthly soup kitchen, the church operates the Zion Hill Community Development Center which offers vocational training, GED courses, counseling for community residents and housing for chronically homeless women.

Zion Hill's motto is "Living to Love, Loving to Serve" and, according to Donna Watts-Nunn, executive assistant of the church.

The congregation moved on Dec. 5, 2010, from it's former Benjamin E. Mays and Lynhurst location to 6175 Campbellton Rd., Atlanta, GA 30331.
