Weekend events for Cascade Patchers

Art is on the menu this weekend!

Several art exhibits showings, craft classes, and dance festivities around Atlanta are ideal events for children as they prepare to return to school.  Since it is Free Saturday for Fulton County residents, many of the events will not compromise your budget.

ART EXHIBITS AT THE HIGH MUSEUM

WHEN:  Saturday, August 6; 10am - 5pm

WHERE: High Museum of Art, 1280 Peachtree Street, Atlanta, GA 30309

SPECIFICS: View all exhibits at the High Museum free of charge (for Fulton County residents) this weekend.  One very popular exhibit still showing is Radcliff Bailey's Memory as Medicine. Other exhibits include Modern By Design, Marin's Watercolors, and Folk Art.

HOME DEPOT KIDS WORKSHOP

WHEN: Saturday, August 6; 10am - 12pm

WHERE: The Home Depot, 1032 Research
Center Drive,  Atlanta, GA 30331 (off Cascade Road)

SPECIFICS: Every first and third Saturday of the month, The Cascade Home Depot sponsors workshops to teach children building skills and tool safety.  Children create such items as race cars, bird houses, tool boxes, and fire trucks. Parents are welcome as well.

EQUAL RITES: THE ART OF MICHAEL D. HARRIS

WHEN: Tues – Fri, 10am – 6pm; Sat and Sun, 1pm - 5pm

WHERE: Hammonds House Museum, 503 Peeples Street, Atlanta, GA 30310

SPECIFICS: Harris's work reflects on race, integration, and inner struggles.  He explores in depth the double consciousness that many in the African diaspora experience in everyday life. 

COST: General Admission is $4; $2 for children, students, and seniors

SUNDAY DRUM CIRCLE

WHEN: Sunday, August 7; 2pm-6pm

WHERE: Atlantic Station (between Cafe Nineteen and Z Gallerie)

SPECIFICS: Listen, dance, or drum with Atlantic Station's drumming group.
