Metro Atlanta Chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha Celebrate their 107th Founders' Day

Starting on Wednesday, December 4th, and concluding on Sunday, December 8th, the Metro-Atlanta Chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. are celebrating 107 years of leadership and service to the immediate and surrounding community.

The collection of graduate chapters and undergraduate chapters are working together in providing a wide-range of events for the general public.

On Thursday, December 5th, at 7pm at the Emory University Medical Center/School of Medicine (1648 Pierce Drive), the chapters are hosting their public policy forum. The topic is “The Affordable Healthcare Act (Obama-care): Its Impact on Our Community”. A panel of healthcare experts, local healthcare organizations, and local leadership are providing the general public with opportunities to become more familiar with the information and steps to take regarding this issue. The event is free and open to the public.

On Friday, December 6th, the chapters’ professional networking mixer is taking place at the Lowes Atlanta Hotel (1065 Peachtree Street NE). From 5-9pm,
individuals are encouraged to forge professional relationships with chapter members, along with other local professionals from all over the metro-area. Afterwards, attendees are encouraged to head over to Reign Nightclub
(1021 Peachtree St NE) for continued social activity and engagement. Those who are planning to attend are encouraged to register at www.societyfridays.com for free admission until 11pm.

The celebration concludes on Sunday, December 8th, at The Greater Piney Grove Baptist Church (1879-1921 Glenwood Ave SE) for the 11:30am service. The general public is invited to worship with members of the fraternity where one of their fraternal brothers, Rev. William Flippen, is the pastor. Events taking place on the fraternity’s actual Founders’ Day (December 4th at Clark Atlanta University) and on Saturday, December 7th (service project at Favor Academy of Excellence) are limited to members of the fraternity only.

With metro-area undergraduate chapters at Morehouse, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Clayton State, Kennesaw State, Southern Polytechnic Institute, and West Georgia, along with graduate chapters based in Atlanta, Decatur, Marietta, College Park/East Point, Duluth, Stockbridge/Henry County, Carrolton, and Loganville-Conyers, along with a lineage of leadership that includes Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the celebration and promotion of outreach and service promises to be like none other for the oldest intercollegiate fraternal organization for African-American men.

The community is encouraged to follow the chapters’ Facebook (AtlAlphasFoundersWeek), Twitter (ATLAlphas), and Instagram (ATLAlphas) platforms, along with the site www.alphasofatlanta.com for further updates.
