Rev. Lowery Returns to Cascade Pulpit Sunday

Lowery to preach the 11 a.m. sermon and the sign copies of his new book.

The Rev. Dr. Joseph Lowery will return to the pulpit of Cascade United Methodist Church Sunday and deliver the sermon at the 11 a.m. service and then sign copies of his first book for worshipers and guests.

Lowery, 89, recently penned "Singing the Lord’s Song in a Strange Land" (Abingdon Press, February 2011),  a compilation of stories that shaped his life as the dean of the Civil Rights Movement.

The former Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) president experiences came full circle on Jan. 20, 2009, when he delivered the benediction for the inauguration of President Barack Obama.  Later that year, he was honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

“Reverend Lowery personifies so much- as a leader, pastor and powerful preacher, father and friend,” says Cascade Senior Pastor Marvin A. Moss.  “We are excited to have him back at Cascade sharing the Good News as only he can.”

The book signing, following the 11 a.m. service, is in Cascade's Fellowship Hall.
