Who's Cascade's Person of the Year?

TIME magazine named President Obama their person of the year for the second time. Tell us who you think should win from our town!

On Dec. 19, Time magazine named President Obama their Person of the Year, again!

The magazine invited votes on 40 candidates, including the president, Gabby Douglas and Kim Jong Un. Other options included The Mars Rover and the Higgs Boson Particle, Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi, and Apple CEO Tim Cook. But, the president took the title again four years after he first won the award as president-elect in 2008.

But who cares about the same-old, same-old? Who is Cascade’s or SW Atlanta's Person of the Year—the man or woman who, in Timespeak, “most influenced the news this year for better or worse”?

Was it Morris Brown College, that seemed to be able to fight off foreclosure?
- or Tyler Perrry after another succesful year.
-Maybe Mayor Reed for his leadership and support of Pres. Obama
-Is it Walmart and the new Walmart stores coming to the area?
- or maybe Family Dollar and the community resistance they met this year.
- Could it be Kandi from Real Housewives, and the buying of a local mansion.
-Or possibly someone totally different!

Tell us your pick in the comment section below!

Ms. J. Butler says, "I'd like to recommend Mr. Charles Bryant. He was NPU P's Chair for 16 years! He recently stepped down to allow an opportunity for new leadership. He is a true gem and community servant. He's made some significant improvements in our community and has served diligently for a substantial amount of time.

I submit Mr. Don Jeanne, President of the Reunion Place Home Owners association. He received the Atlanta's Neighborhoods Matter Award
from the Atlanta Planning Advisory Board in November of 2012, for hisefforts to fundraise a reward-fund and for distribution of some 2000 flyers about my son's case (Jordan Ashley, was the young man killed in a robbery on Danfort Road on August 23, 2012). There has been no resolution to this case but Mr. Jeanne has been instrumental in assisting the police and working in the police campus that took place shortly after the incident. He has been supportative, available and helpful in my dealing with him. Please nominate Mr Jeanne for Cascade person of the year.

Tragedy struck on Aug 23,2012. My son Jordan Timothy Ashley was returning from work when he was robbed and shot, this act of violence on Danforth Road S W Atlanta, took my sons life. He was just 21 years old. Following that incident the Cascade community stepped forward spare headed by DONALD JEANNE President of the Reunion Place Home Owners Association. His unselfish demonstration of care, concern, compassion and selfless display of servant leadership throughout, and following this senseless act brought the communities together in a way that has never been experienced during my 18 years of residence in the Cascade area. His efforts to raise funds for printing of flyers which HE personally assisted with distributing to all the businesses on Cascade ,that willingly consented and displayed the posters of the sketches of the 2 suspects. He also personally collected funds to add to Crime Stoppers Reward Fund taking it to over $5,000.00. He is not only actively involved in assisting my family that was too shocked and grieved to attend to the business that he so diligently performed, but he could be seen cleaning the Reunion Place area on Cascade Road as well as assisting with putting up and removing the subdivision decorations. His selfless display of concern for his community has earned him "Atlanta's Neighborhoods Matter Award. I am proud to nominate Mr. Donald "Don" Jeanne to be considered and awarded the Cascade Person of the Year.

Voters might find it useful to be provided with the names and positions held by members of theRead More "Community Advisory Boards" and the "Human Services Coordinating Committee" as these 2 groups seem to have been provided with enough information to make $4M worth of recommendations to the Board of Commissioners. Conversely, not long ago, a costly audit report revealed that not enough program information had been collected (over a 3 year period) for professional auditors to make programmatic recommendations to the Board of Commissioners. Taxpayers of Fulton County are in dire need of NEW Commissioners who will not continue to buy the garbage, repeatedly, placed before them by the Director of Housing and Human Services: Gerry Easley. It would also be beneficial for taxpayers to be provided with the list of names of individual government employees who did receive permanent salary increases, during the last 5 year, when no county-wide permanent raises were approved of by the Board of Commissioners.
