Application Deadline for the Fulton County Art-At-Work Summer Session is 6/5

Artists age 14-16, have 1 day to apply for the Art at Work summer program

For all artists age 14-16, you have 1 more day to apply to Fulton County's Art at Work summer program which takes place July 9 to August 3rd.  Please forward this article to any parents that you may know that have talented teens.

If you are a Fulton County resident, you can take part in this prestigious session designed by Fulton County Department of Arts and Culture this summer which serves as an intensive job readiness program. According to the department, "Art at Work is an impact driven job readiness program that uses art as a vehicle to teach 21st century employment skills to under-served teens in Fulton County. "  The program emphasizes critical thinking, creativity, communication and collaboration taking place at West End Arts Center.

"The program uses theater, visual arts, creative writing and dance to prepare them for a positive future."

What is a special feature of this program is that, the students also work on a collective production and art exhibition that is presented to the community at the end of the program.

Acceptance into the program is much like being accepted into a college program, you will need to submit examples of your work for consideration. The good thing is that once accepted, the program is FREE.

The Who, What, When, and Where is below:

WHO: Artists age 14-16.  Must be a Fulton County Resident    

WHEN: The Art at Work  Summer program will take place Mondays-Fridays from 11:00am-3:00pm from July 9 –August 3rd with the final production/exhibition on August 3rd.  

WHERE: The Art at Work Program will be held at the West End Performing Arts Center (WEPAC), a Fulton County facility. We are located at 945 Ralph David Abernathy Blvd., SW in the Historic West End community. The closest MARTA Rail Station is West End which is approximately 4 blocks from the Center.  The Marta Bus Route (#71) that serves the Center can be boarded at the West End Marta Rail Station and will stop a few steps away from the Center.  

HOW:   Interested students should follow the application guidelines as outlined for their discipline. Acceptance into the Art At Work Summer Program will be based on an audition for theatre and a portfolio review for visual arts and creative writing students. All students must submit one (typed) paragraph about your artistic practice. This paragraph should include: why you are an artist; why you create or are involved in the kind of work you do; what areas of art are you are interested in pursuing; and any significant achievements to date. An interview or audition with the Art At Work Panelists will complete the application process.  

COST: If accepted into the program, there is no cost.  Students are paid.
