Cascade Business Association Meeting Thursday to Discuss $50,000 State Grant for I-285/Cascade Right-of-Way Improvements

The medians at I-285 and Cascade Road are to be maintained by the Cascade Business and Merchants Association; The organization meets tonight to discuss a five-year maintenance plan, funded with $50,000 grant from the state.

The unkempt medians along the ramps the intersection of I-285 and Cascade Road should start looking much better in the coming months.

The Cascade Business and Merchants Association has received a $50,000 grant to do the work. The money was awarded by the Georgia Department of Transportation.

The association is slated to meet Thursday evening to discuss how to proceed with the project.

“The ramps desperately need enhancing and the design plan that has been submitted would give the Cascade community the face lift our organization has been forecasting," the association’s president, Winston Carhee Jr., wrote in an application letter to GDOT that was cited in a report from Fulton County Commissioner Bill Edwards.

“I can assure you the [association’s] Board of Directors will support the project through its entirety, from initial planting through the perpetual yearly maintenance,” the letter stated.

The state granted the association the maximum amount available through its Gateway beautification program.

The deal was contingent upon the merchants association getting approval from the county Board of Commissioners to oversee the maintenance of the medians.

The county commission approved the deal in December. The association agreed to maintain the medians for five years.

The grant was included in $644,000 in Gateway grants that GDOT announced March 29. The money comes from permit fees charged by GDOT.
