Cascade United Methodist Church is seeking to hire a Communications consultant who will be responsible for all areas relating to management of all internal and external communications, media relations, advertising and audio visual programs, including streaming of church services.  This is both a managerial and hands-on position.  Primary responsibilities and skills requirements are listed below.

Salary is commensurate with experience.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Audio Visual Program

  1. Assess short and long-term audio visual needs of the church which accommodate communications objectives.

  2. Conduct research and cost-benefit analysis of equipment, church needs, labor and cabling for audio-visual functions.

  • Develop specifications and obtain bids from prospective vendors for addressing audio visual needs.

  • Manage the process for building a solid infrastructure for technical enhancements to transition from current capabilities to self-producing and recording of worship services and events.

  • Manage in-house video streaming services to the Cascade UMC website.

  • Identify external analytic service to track viewing habits and information on CUMC website viewers.


  • Marketing and Media Relations

    1. Devise a strategy for effectively marketing the Cascade UMC brand.

    2. Manage all advertising activities, including budgets and placements.

    3. Develop strategy for Cascade UMC interface with the press/media.

    4. Manage all contact with external media outlets on behalf of the church.

  • Secure opportunities for Cascade visibility in media outlets as a result of interviews with clergy and members, or by-lined articles/columns.

  • Secure press coverage for major events of Cascade UMC, as determined in collaboration with Church Council and/or ministerial team.

  • Secure public service announcement placements for major Cascade UMC events, as determined in collaboration with Church and/or ministerial team.

  • Manage the publication and distribution of the monthly newsletter: The Messenger, weekly e-Blast (Pathway), and other printed publications.

  • Maintain and update as required all social media sites, i.e. FaceBook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.

  • May be asked to develop a television programming strategy allowing broadcast of Cascade UMC Services on a regular basis.

  • Other special projects as required.


  • Knowledge and Skill Requirements

    1. Experience in strategic planning and execution.

    2. Demonstrated ability to effectively orchestrate advertising and publicity functions.

  • Knowledge and experience in strategy implementation for television programming.

  • Demonstrated ability to execute television programming ideas from concept to full execution.

  • Knowledge and experience with alternative media outlets to maximize Cascade UMC branding/marketing.

  • Minimum of 5-years experience in communications and media relations (preferred).

  • Working Conditions

    Working conditions are normal for a church environment. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
