Garden Tea Party

4 Ways to keep your garden lush and beautiful with your leftover tea.

By Colleen Walsh Fong

Day 4 of 10 Days of Tea

Do you have a green thumb or are you just green with envy of those who do? I’m not sure how green my thumb is, but I have an avid interest in all things garden-related. Through years of drought and flood I’ve learned to garden in a Darwinian way. My plants are purely in survival-of-the-fittest mode. Green gardeners are always looking for natural and inexpensive ways to nourish their woody and herbaceous charges. Here are a few tips to help:

Invite ferns to a tea party. Wet tea leaves (or bags) worked into the soil around ferns, and even an occasional watering with the beverage (hold the milk and sugar!) provides the acid they love.

Rose bushes benefit from the nutrients in tea. Quench their thirst by spreading your used tea bags, or loose tea around their bases, as far out as the roots are likely to go. Cover them with mulch and let them work their magic.

Help your pots retain water for the plants they hold by using tea bags toward the pot bottoms. They’ll capture some of the water and it will cause the bags to release nutrients into the soil, too.

Pour unused brewed tea onto your compost heap to speed decomposition.Speeding up anything is always a hit with me. Enjoy these garden tips, and find ways to speed up meal prep at Easy Weekly Meals.

Voters might find it useful to be provided with the names and positions held by members of theRead More "Community Advisory Boards" and the "Human Services Coordinating Committee" as these 2 groups seem to have been provided with enough information to make $4M worth of recommendations to the Board of Commissioners. Conversely, not long ago, a costly audit report revealed that not enough program information had been collected (over a 3 year period) for professional auditors to make programmatic recommendations to the Board of Commissioners. Taxpayers of Fulton County are in dire need of NEW Commissioners who will not continue to buy the garbage, repeatedly, placed before them by the Director of Housing and Human Services: Gerry Easley. It would also be beneficial for taxpayers to be provided with the list of names of individual government employees who did receive permanent salary increases, during the last 5 year, when no county-wide permanent raises were approved of by the Board of Commissioners.
