Atlanta's Income Segregation is one of the Worst in the US

Atlanta sees itself on the top of a very embarrassing list today, because Atlanta has just been rated as one of the worst violators of income segregation.

According to a Pew Research report which looked at the number of low-income families that live in a low-income Census tract versus the percentage of high-income families that live in a high income Census tract, Atlanta is high up on the list.  We ranked 6th behind other major cities like New York, Miami, and Houston in the low-income category.

A study like this suggests that there are neighborhoods in Atlanta that are separated by socioeconomic differences, and that often times the worlds of the haves and the have-nots do not mix.

Southwest Atlanta proves to be an anomaly, though, because we have a number of high-income homes and communities just miles away from lower-income apartments and homes.  Just look at Cascade Road, where you could buy a home for multimillion dollars or you could rent an apartment for under $800 a month.

Again Southwest Atlanta is leading the way, as the rest of America tries to emulate the success that our neighborhoods have shown for years.
