Atlanta's Mayor Named to The Root Top 100

Kasim Reed ranked 6th, up from 10th last year, on the list of 100 Black Influencers.

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed has been named one of the 100 most influential black "achievers and influencers" by The Root.

Reed is ranked No. 6 on the list of honorees, all of whom are 25 to 45 years old. The Root, which is devoted to news and cultural coverage of the African American community, says its 100 Black Influencers list is designed to recognize people who "not only excel in their fields but also are people who use their influence to shape the world and make it a better place."

In a news release about the honor, Reed said:

“I wake up every single day thinking about how I can make Atlanta safer, financially stronger and more competitive,” said Mayor Reed. “I am never satisfied and my job is never complete, but I am honored that The Root has recognized me on its annual list of the Top 100 African-American achievers and influencers. I am also inspired by the successes of my fellow honorees, who all have made path breaking change in their respective fields.”
