Be Informed: Atlanta Beltline SW Neighborhood Meeting, Tonight at 6:30 p.m.

The Atlanta Beltline will affect us all. Be Informed and Be Active.

Tonight at 6:30 p.m. organizers from the Atlanta Beltline will be holding a neighborhood forum/meeting at West Hunter Street Baptist Church, 1040 Ralph David Abernathy to discuss the plans of the Atlanta Beltline and how it will affect Southwest Atlanta.

Construction dollars for the Beltline are included in the upcoming Transportation Referendum on which we all will have a chance to vote whether we are willing to add a .01 cent sales tax to pay for it and other large transportation initiatives.  Attending the study group meeting will give our community more details on the intended plans so that we can go to the ballot box on July 31st and make an informed decision.

A few of the questions that I have as a community member are:

Find out what's happening in Cascadewith free, real-time updates from Patch.

  • How many jobs will be created by this project, and how many will come directly from our SW community?
  • Will SW Atlanta artists and designers have a say into what our portion of the Beltline will look like aesthetically?
  • How much noise pollution will these trains cause homeowners, that already live near freight rail?
  • What sort of preferences will be given to local business owners who want to open stores on or near the SW Beltline?

These are just a few of my personal concerns, and I am sure you have some of your own.  The only way we can make our concerns heard and make sure that they are answered is if we show up to scheduled meetings like this one and make them known.  The Beltline is still in a stage that we can have our community fingerprint all over our section of the project.  I think it is better we be proactive in regards to the Beltline, than be stuck with whatever they choose to build in our neighborhoods.

Please make sure to join me at the meeting at West Hunter Street Baptist Church, 1040 Ralph David Abernathy from 6:30 p.m.- 8:30 p.m.
