Construction at the brand new Cascade Walmart is nearly complete and ready for business.
Walmart officials have said that the store plans to be open this Fall before the Christmas holiday. This will be the 2nd Walmart to be placed in a historically Black community in metro Atlanta, the Historic Westside Village store near the AUC being the other.
Once the store opens for business, it is said to be employing roughly 300 people. Note, job seekers can apply by going to www.careers.walmart.com
A number of community members have expressed reservations about the big-box store coming to Cascade, mostly saying that it will cause too much traffic in the already clogged area, and others feeling as if more small businesses should be supported to move in the area. With that said, the outcry against the new Walmart has been very minimal compared to the community's opposition to Family Dollar and other discount stores moving in the area.
