Flooding in East Point Brings Unwanted Swimming Critters

Flooding over the weekend, once again presented a problem for Taylor Avenue residents.

What could be worst than your basement continually flooding when we have a constant downpour of rain like we did this weekend?  Well, the answer is poisonous snakes, beavers, and other critters trying to swim into your basement and your house after the the storm.

That is exactly what is happening for residents near Taylor Avenue and the East Point water tower.  According to a report by CBS Atlanta, who talked to a resident and reported:

There's more than just water that's taken over the back half of his property. He pointed out poisonous snakes, beavers and other animals that were swimming up to the basement of the home, which is submerged in the flood. There is a playground just feet away from where the flooding ends.

The fear is that these wild animals will harm one of the humans, especially a child.  "There are snakes and I understand there are Water Moccasins adjacent to the children's park and just a short while ago there were children out here playing," said a resident to CBS.

East Point City Councilman Alex Gothard was interviewed by CBS Atlanta and said that, "crews should come and start pumping some of the water out of the area behind the homes on Monday, but rain could slow down the process."  He informed CBS that, "there's a collapsed storm drain pipe that's in there now," and that, "the council recently voted to have this entire area fixed. So it's something that we're working hard on - we haven't forgotten about this area."
