Mayor Reed says Stadium Negotiations are On-Track

In a very brief stadium to media this week, outside of the ribbon-cutting for the new downtown Skyview attraction, Mayor Kasim Reed said the Falcon's stadium negotiations were still moving forward and were on-track.

He told reporters that all parties were still sitting at the table and discussions were moving forward. He said he felt as if everyone involved were happy with the negotiations so far.

The talks involve trying to buy Friendship Baptist Church so that the new stadium can be placed on their current property. There are reports that the city offered $15M to the church, but was well short of their asking price. Negotiations continue.

Cascade Patch was unable to get anyone from the church to talk on record, but off the record community members say that the church is currently without a spiritual leader. Friendship Baptist is actually looking to hire a Reverend, but without that leader in place it is hard for the entire congregation to agree on whether to move and sellout.

There have been reports that a final decision from the church and/or the City of Atlanta must be made in the coming weeks so that initial planning and construction can begin.
