NPU-T: "Please support gunshot location technology"

After APD said they did not have gunshot location technology, residents begin to look into it themselves.

Editors Note: The following was an email sent to me by NPU-T Chairperson.  She wanted to make sure to share this info so that we can begin to see a stop to random gunfire in the evenings

Good day Community!

I hope this will find you well. Previously at this months meeting, residents reported a series of random shots being heard in West End. The officer representing stated that ADP did not have the technology to detect where these shot were coming from.
One of our concerned residents, Kwabena Nkromo took time to research if other neighborhoods were experiencing the same amount of activity and concerns,  Please review the below emails and links, as you see, other NPU's are working to request this gunfire detection technology.

Hello Everyone,

Do you feel like we experience too much random gunfire in Atlanta? Have you had to patch your roof from random bullets or found random bullets in your cars, walls, or around the yard?  I'm guessing many of you have or know someone that has.  Are you tired of it?

If you are, please (at least) read the last three sentences of this email and contribute a minute or two out of your day to help launch technology that should help lessen gunfire incidents.  If you have another minute or two above and beyond that, please read this entire email, check out the Youtube video linked below, and if you have even more interest, visit the ShotSpotter website linked.

Three local neighbors spent months trying to see an end to celebratory gunfire through deployment of gunfire location technology.  After months of work, those same neighbors need five minutes of your time to give this technology the best possible chance at deployment.

Our NPU Public Safety Chair (Ron Lall) sent out an email two weeks ago discussing an initiative to launch ShotSpotter gunshot location technology in Atlanta.  This technology is capable of detecting the source of gunfire within inches, and allows distinguishing between actual gunfire events and other sounds which mimic gunfire, such as fireworks.  Technical info is available at www.shotspotter.com  and a short video explaining the technology is here: http://youtu.be/V28UMrWGARk

In short, Councilmember Julian Bond proposed an ordinance that would allow for funding of the ShotSpotter technology in Atlanta. This is exacly what we need to isolate where gunfire is coming from and allow APD to respond to the exact site of gunfire incidents.  This ordinance was held recently and is up for discussion with all involved parties and NOW is the time to request support from our representatives!

If it bothers you that we can't tell the difference between gunfire and
fireworks, that our APD officers waste time driving around in circles trying to locate a possible gunfire event, or that we can't prove where gunfire is coming from with any certainty, please take a moment to help:

Here are five easy web links you can use to send out emails asking for support with even less effort on your part (Thanks, Matthew):
