Photo: Do You Think Fairburn Road near Cascade Road Needs 2 New Bridges?

The 2 bridges leave very little room for pedestrians to cross safely.

It was brought to our attention by a reader and Cascade resident that the 2 bridges on Fairburn Road near the intersection of Cascade Road are in need of updating.

Since the Cascade corridor has become such a shopping center for the entire area, and due to the increased number of housing developments popping up in the area more pedestrians and vehicles are sharing the road space.  There are no sidewalks on Fairburn Road in the area that we are discussing, so pedestrians end up walking a a tiny strip of grass as cars pass by at speeds up to 50 m.p.h.

The major concern, or the concern that is most pressing, is that there are 2 bridges on that strip of road that are so tight that both pedestrians and drivers think they should be renovated.  Last week I did a story on the new renovated bridge at Fairburn and N. Camp Creek.  It was an old wooden bridge that badly needed updating, but you can see from the picture it NOW has ample sidewalk for pedestrians in contrast with the 2 other bridges.

The pictures I took of the Fairburn and Cascade bridges are during the day, and they still look scary for school children and even adults.  Imagine if you were walking to the store or from MARTA at night and you basically have to just hope that the oncoming traffic sees you and slows down.

So my question is to find out your opinion.  What do you think?  Should the 2 bridges be renovated to accommodate pedestrians?
