Wednesday's Storms: Power Outages and Downed Trees in Cascade Patch

Georgia Power continues to restore power to metro area neighborhoods after a powerful pop-up thunderstorm battered the area just after 4 p.m.

According to a WSB-TV article, "nearly 7,500 homes and businesses had scattered power outages across metro Atlanta."  There are other reports of more than 15,000 people without power.

Cascade Patch was given permission to a photo from Twitter user, @mschocolateladi showing a massive tree that came crashing down on a Beecher Street home. As the tree fell, the homeowner said it clipped the power lines, leaving the West End neighborhood street without power. There were also multiple traffic lights malfunctioning across the city, causing backups throughout the evening.

Fox 5 reported that a, "a large tree crashed into the kids' room of a home on Cascade Avenue home. Three girls were inside when it happened."  The girls did not suffer serious injuries.

There were also reports of a tree down on Donnelly Street and on Hartford Street.

Use caution if you are traveling the roads this evening, and be prepared for the possibility of heavy fog in the morning after such a warm day and wet ground.
