Registration Begins Thursday for Seniors' Energy Bill Assistance Program

Fulton County seniors can register at the Darnell Senior Center Nov. 3rd and 10th to receive assistance with their heating bills.

Senior citizens in southwest Atlanta may join other Fulton County residents in qualifying for a financial assistance program designed to help pay their energy bills. 

According to a news release from the county, early enrollment is now available in the county's Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP fo seniors on fixed incomes who need help paying energy bills.

Seniors who apply must meet state income guidelines that include having an income at or below 150% of Georgia's poverty level. They also must be responsible for paying the cost of their home's primary heating source. Fulton County Senior Multipurpose Facilities will offer help during the month of November to those seniors registered with the facilities.

Seniors who are not already registered at a multipurpose facility can take advantage of the enrollment assistance program once they have registered with the senior facility that they visit.

The early enrollment period is available for households where all members are 65 and older or for those 65 and over with household members underage 18. This enrollment period is also available for households consisting of members that have a life threatening crisis regardless of the age of household members (proof of medical crisis is required from a doctor or hospital).

Registered participants at the Harriett G. Darnell Senior Multipurpose Facility may enroll on Nov. 3rd or Nov. 10th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
