The Homegoing Celebration for Mrs. Evelyn Gibson Lowery

The homegoing celebration for Mrs. Evelyn Gibson Lowery is being held in the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel on the Morehouse College Campus, Wednesday, October 2 at 11 a.m. Lowery was the founder of the S.C.L.C.WOMEN, Inc., the sister organization of the civil rights organization S.C.L.C; and creator of the annual Drum Major for Justice Awards and the annual Evelyn G. Lowery Civil Rights Heritage Educational Tour. She was married to civil rights activist the Reverend Joseph E. Lowery for close to 70 years.

Mrs. Lowery made her transition on September 26, 2013, after suffering a massive stroke on September 18.

Doors will open to the public from 9 -10:30 a.m. for viewing. The homegoing service will begin promptly at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at Westview Cemetery, 1680 Westview Drive, Atlanta, GA 30314.
