COURTNEY - VISUAL DEPICTION OF A LOVE I DON'T COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND

February 21 – April 18, 2014

Opening Reception February 21, 2014 |  6:00PM until 9:00PM
Artist Talk – February 21 | 7:15PM

Arnika Dawkins Gallery is pleased to present Courtney - A Visual Depiction of a Love I Don't Completely Understand, a stunning series by celebrity photographer and gallery represented photographer Allen Cooley. In this series, Cooley explores the notion of love through the visual representation of flowers. Through Cooley's lens we are afforded an intimate view of a flower's perfect imperfection. He successfully reveals the delicate nature of the flower and uses it as a metaphor to lure the viewer into the complex twists and turns of love. With the same detail that he would shoot a fashion model, the highly stylized floral portraits expresses beauty and decay that examines the confusing aspects of love and relationships.

A romantic at heart, Cooley state that he has always been in love with love. With Courtney - A Visual Depiction of a Love I Don't Completely Understand, Cooley believes that he is able to "hold on to love just a little longer than life would allow me to do naturally".  Born in California and spending his formative years in New York, the now Atlanta resident obtained his Master of Fine Arts from the Savannah College of Art and Design where he serves as an adjunct professor. His stunning work has graced several magazine covers and billboards and is in many private collections.
