B.E. Mays High School Varsity Baseball Team Makes AAAAA State Playoffs

With a record of 17-6-1 (9-4 region), the Mays High School Raiders Varsity Baseball team have qualified for the AAAAA State Playoffs.  With a very young nucleus; mainly sophomores and juniors, the Baseball Raiders are taking Region 6-AAAAA by storm.  Juniors  Isaiah Lewis (SS)  and Desmond Jones (OF) leads the offensive attack. Lewis is hitting .412, while Jones sports a .371 batting average.  Defensively, we have played  great all season; making routine and spectacular plays at every position.  Sophomore pitcher Xzavion Curry has been extraordinary on the mound with a record of 6-3, 3 saves, 102 strikeouts while allowing only 17 runs.  Also, Senior Kristen Brewster (6-2 record) has been solid on the mound.

The Coaching Staff feel this is his best team at Mays since 2006; and the difference is we are young (sophomores and juniors).  At the end of last season, our freshmen and sophomores began to peak and come into their own.  Coach Michael Jennings says, "The Raiders set some lofty goals for the 2014 season; and we have made great strides in achieving all the goals that were established. We are looking forward to playing in the AAAAA State Playoffs; where anything can happen!"

We will begin the AAAAA State Playoffs Friday, May 2, 2014, with a 3-game series against Loganville High School. We will play  a DH on Friday (5:00 and 7:30 pm) with a "if necessary game on Saturday at 2:00 pm.
