BONE MARROW DRIVE AND FORUM ENCOURAGE AWARENESS, ACTION AMONG STUDENTS IN HBCU COMMUNITIES

Morehouse School of Medicine, Atlanta Ga, will host a Forum on Bone Marrow on Monday, February 24, 2014, from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm, followed by a Bone Marrow Drive at Spelman College-Lower Manley Center, on Wednesday, February 26, 2014, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. The forum and bone marrow drive are jointly sponsored by the six Atlanta metro area chapters of The Links, Incorporated, and the Be the Match Registry operated by the National Marrow Donor Program.

The event is an effort to raise community awareness about the need for bone marrow donations. A major goal is to increase the number of African Americans participating in donor programs. Organizers will present information about bone marrow donation and transplantation in an environment of students who attend Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the Atlanta University Center; engage African Americans students in dialogue that raises awareness of the need for bone marrow donation; celebrate donors and recipients; register potential donors, and raise $6,000 for the Be The Match Registry.

Three youth speakers will share their stories as a recipient, or ones in need of a bone marrow transplant during the one-hour Monday forum. Noted DJ, "Fat Man," will give a personal testimony of a recent loss. He will also provide music for your listening pleasure during the Wednesday bone marrow drive at Spelman.
